I agree with the suggestion about stepping on up to the 338 win mag. If you have any doubt about the ability of the 30/06, then I don't think a 300 mag would be enough power gain to justify another...

I think the 260 Rem would be the best for your stated use, or maybeeven a 6.5x55 .
6.5 mm bullets are very efficient and would maintain energy much better down range than a 243.
