You stole it for $200 as that just covers the scope! I have 3 of em and am always interested in more in case you ever want to sell it I'll double your money. In my opinion,it's the deadilest short range(kick em out or running)deer gun in existence.

A good friend of mine bought one back in the '80's I think it was. We sure had a ball shooting it. It always functioned well. He's gone now, and I don't know what ever happened to it. I would have loved to have gotten it.

44 Mag in a rifle is a blast to shoot and very deadly on deer under 100 yards. It doesnt do excessive damage to the meat either like a high velocity rounds does. It just does its job and does it well. Did I also mention that they are a blast to shoot? And cheap to reload too.

The trigger guard of the older model (mine is a 1962) is made of 'pot metal' and is very weak.

It is broken now... no replacements available... and a fix doesn't appear to be viable.

Replaced it with a Marlin .44.

It was a great gun while it lasted!

My grandfather had one of the old ones and he gave it to my brother-in-law. It jammed incessantly. Called Ruger, they basically told him that they quit making the gun years ago because of a design flaw leading to the problem and refused to fix it, only give him some credit towards a new gun. Of course it was an heirloom so he said no. The local gunsmith said if Ruger wouldn't back it up he had figured out how to fix the problem, and he did and it is a fun little gun now.

The gunsmith said the newer ones had the problem corrected, it was only the first run with this problem. It really reduced my opinion of Ruger that they knew it was a design flaw and wouldn't cover a fix.

I wouldn't sell mine for $500! I recently installed a set of Williams sights on it with the firesite on front and the peep site on the rear,an attempt at helping tired eyes; It worked!
I bought my rifle in the mid 1980's and have taken several deer with it. I prefer the soft point bullets to the hollow point in the rifles due to their increased volicity.
There's not arifle of any kind that I'm aware of that is as quick to the shoulder as the Ruger 44 carbine. This is the defination of brush gun.

I have3 of the older 1s and am looking for another, pref the newer 1 so that I can rebuild it as a .454 casull. I really think that would be a great combo of .454 casull both in revolver and semiauto carbine. I totally agree that they are the deadliest close range "brush" gun in existance-as far as I'm concerned. I can't think of much that's better than 5 shots of .44 magnumin a light, extremely manuverable rifle. Two of mine wear 2.5 fixed power scopes mounted as low as possible while the other is a early peep sight model.

I had 3 of the Ruger Carbines in 44 mag. over the years. 2 were the lever actions, and one was the semi(the one you are looking at). First I will say that $200 is a great price and I would definitely but the rifle at that price. However I got rid of the 3 different ones I had. For me the accuracy was just not acceptable. I went with the Marlin 1894 lever in 44 magnum, and I am glad I did. The Marlin's I have, and have shot will out shoot the Ruger's, and the Marlin's will digest cast bullets 10 times better than the Ruger's would. The 44 magnum round IMO is a cast bullet round, and the cast bullets do not perform very well in the Ruger semi.

I consider my Marlin 1894 to easily be a 150-200 yard deer rifle. And IMO the Ruger is just not up to that range of shoting. However the 44 magnum round is very capable on up to deer sized game at that range. It just takes a lot of practice, and if you reload cast bullets you can easily shoot 500 or 600 rounds for $100. Tom.

I'll give you $250 for it......., and I'll wash your pickup to boot. Seriously, great buy for a great gun. My youngest son just killed his first deer with the Ruger lever version today, very impressive caliber, droppedit in its tracks.
