I always put my bow in the press before serving or working on peep sights or anything in the string in fear of cutting a strand , i custom build strings and cables so i can replace mine at need but...

Go to Wal-Mart and get you a small can of Lithium Grease put bow in a bow press and pull that axle and clean and lube it . That should take away that little noise .

It depends on your up keep , waxing it & how many times it is shot. you should replace it or at least I do evry 1000 shots or there about, but I build my own strings & cables so it does not cost me...

Yes you do need a center serving , reason so the string will not have direct contact with a release or a loop. have it reserved won't hurt anything .
