So you have a recent soil test? If the pH is too low, the clover will be bitter and the deer won't eat it no matter how good it looks to you.

I'd do exactly what you have planned so far except for the BFO. You can do that if you want, but I think BFO are really susceptable to early frost(someone correct me...

Last night I took a hellrazor that went in the dirt and just worked it very lightly across a fine(2000)stone and it is now back to shaving hair off my arm. Just one pass and flip to the next side....

My first thought was an avulsion fracture of a bone cyst. Bone cysts are not terribly uncommon, and at the attachment point of the rotator cuff muscles, it could pull out.
