RE: Good Hunting Knife?
One of my old neighbors makes custom knives and I've heard extremely good things about his knives.

I went to REI and tried about 10different 3"-5" folding Knives in the paper slicing test. All the knives I tried were sturdy. Gerbers were universally the dullest. Bucks were universally the sharpest.
Then I went to walmart and picked up a Kershaw Storm II.

It lists for $60 but Walmart has it for 29.99.
It is the sharpest knife I've ever held. And I have a set of very good wusthoff cooking knives. In the paper slicing test I was surprised at how cleanly and easily it cut. Then I tried it on the Bass Pro Fall Hunting classic circular and was astonished to find that it cleanly sliced right through the whole thing without "pushing" any of the pages. I actually get a little dizzy when I hold the thing open because it's like a freaking light saber and I'm afraid of losing an arm.

The steel/process is one of the reasons. You can gut 10 deer and still not have to sharpen it.

I can't say enough about these knives...
http://www.grohmannknives.com/
Handmade and they can customize them for you.. They have a variety of handle materials and will use any material you supply. I had a model 4 made with moose antler (overlap sheath) for my son, the moose was shot by his grandfather.. Sweet knife..
They even supply a knife to the Canadian Armed Forces, primarily to the Airborne and Combat Engineers.http://www.grohmannknives.com/pages/r3s.html My buddy was issued one (combat engineer) and used and abused it for 10 years in the field (Canada and Germany) and the knife is in great shape. this is not a "fighting knife" or a "combat knife", but more a camp or hunting knife which is what soldiers user knives for 99% of the time (so I've been told).. In any case I bought one with sambar stag handles, stainless and the overlap sheath an its a great little knife for field dressing elk and deer and on your belt you don't even know it's there, even while seated in a car seat...
Very popular up here in Canada and well testedgutting game and around the camp.. Hand made in Nova Scotia, Canada which may not be American made, but certainly not made in China or Taiwan.. The steel however is imported from Sweden..
Cheers.
