Winchester Model 72

Hey, folks. I got a needle in a haystack question. I have a model 72 winchester .22 cal rifle in great shape, except for the bolt. This gun's finish is about 80%+ The problem is, that the previous...

RE: I hate a thief!

I think that a couple of nights in a jailhouse with hands cuffed to his ankles and a big tube of K-Y would be just the ticket. Maybe somebody nicknamed "tripod" with a preference of blood for a...

RE: Possible link to other slain hunter?

Yeah, this will get all ugly before the smoke clears. CBS (pronounced: See, B.S.) and the other networks will make hay out of the man's ethnicity, while the facts remain, the man probably was a...

RE: A moment of silence

I'll add my prayers, of course. I really worry that the anti-gunners and anti - hunters are going to use this sensless trafgedy as a reason to close lands to hunting and to fuel the banning of our...

RE: Putting on camo before or after.

Here's my theory - I think that you're right on the "street clothes". I have a scentlok base slayers set, plus my camos washed in de-scenting detergent, then bagged in plastic. I also have a second...

RE: wut do yall think of having a girlfriend that hunts

I have to settle for a wife that at least supports my hunting. After all, she went and got me my Sako rifle for my birthday. If it were up to me, I'd have settled for a remington or winchester....

RE: Moving to North Georgia

Not really. I've been talking to one guy who's moving to the area, but he's waiting on confirmation of a job offer, and a 15 yr-old who wants to hunt, goes hunting with other folks, but I've yet to...

RE: BUGS are eating me alive while hunting... I need help.

I guess I'm skeptical about devices, but I am 100% USDA grade-A bug bait. No lie - I attract any biting varmint for miles around. People stand next to me and I'm getting swarmed. I just put on Layers...

RE: What are were these kids thinking?

In some ways I can agree with that, but the loss of hunting privileges until they turn 21 and some kind of "real" community service like clearing land for the DNR with "house arrest"- no outside...

RE: Is it always a mad scramble to pack for hunting trip?

I have been packed since June. Just one final "dance in the dryer" for my scent-lok stuff, and it's off to the ball. Except I still don't have a hunting buddy. The only thing that Wal-Mart ain't got....

RE: Smokin', Chewin', pissin', pukn', Buck killin' machines!

I agree withe some of the folks that say it's just being in the right place and right time. The times I've driven to the hunting areas, the deer were out on the roadsides, 9 or more dead, and then...

RE: Scope Sighting Question

Free-floating the barrel means that the manufacturer doesn't mount the barrel tightly to the stock, except at a couple of points, usually at the action mechanism and again a little forward. The...

Hey there
I'm not probably the mentor you're looking for, as I'm in about your same predicament. I did manage to correspond with someone I met at this sight who was moving to my area. I hope that...

RE: Scope Sighting Question

That will depend on the gun and the barrel thickness. Heavier barrels heat slower and take longer to cool, while thinner lighter barrels will heat more rapidly and cool sooner. The thinner barrrels...

RE: Suggestions for an old shooter, new hunter and son

You're never too old to get in this game. As the song goes-"too old to rock & roll, too young to die." I'm 43 this month and this is my second season hunting. I got a Sako in 270 win that was putting...

RE: Parasites in Deer Meat

Sounds like some kind of bot fly or blowfly maggots. I've never heard of them in deer, but they afflict cattle and horses through open wounds. Maybe a wildlife bilogist would be a good source to...

RE: poll on your age and how long you been hunting

I turn 43 this month. I've been an avid shooter since I was 10, cutting my teeth down in Miami on rats running through the mango and avocado trees. There were few squirrels left there as the rats...

RE: My girlfriends uncle thinks hunting is wrong

In my experience, the fact that a supposed "anti-hunter" wants to know more about this is refreshing, indeed. Whether we like it or not, we're all ambassadors of our sport and to educate is a...

RE: What do you consider to be the best gun brand?

Well, guys, I think there's a big contingent of remington users. I think they've got the numbers out there. I plug away with a sako finbear in .270 win. Puts out a nice little 1-inch groups with some...

Yeah, I wondered about that too. I was in a tree stand near LaGrange and had a similar experience, except it was a bunch of squirrels making the noise. The deer never even seemed to notice. Maybe I...
