Well,I can speak of Pennsylvanis mostly. The first day of season most schools scheduled a day off ,because half the kids didn"t show up. When you went back to school the teachers would let the kids report to the class about their hunt. TV and newspapers treated it like a holiday with reports pictures and reported how much hunting helped the economy. People would just drive by hunters and blow horns flash lights and wish them luck.If you had your deer on your truck people would give the thumbs up sign.People would stop to look at the deer hanging in your tree. People would ask you to hunt their property and even offer you coffee or lunch. We were treated sorta like a important part of the fabric off this country.

its still like that in some areas cardeer. When i was in highschool me and my buds were out hunting usually every school morning for as long as it took. Come in to class late and a buck in the back of the pickup in the parking lot. Class would get delayed so we could all go outside and have a look at the daily kill. Lots of farmers here are scrambling each year to get guys in to kill off the elk and deer. Can't go down main street in town without somebody flagging you down to look at the animal. Within 6 hours the story is all around town and has usually grown 20 points by then. I see your point though how these things seem to be dwindling, but we are still old school here !!!!!!!!!!!

funny, but my brothers and I were reminiscing about such subjects this past weekend. Back when we were in high school(late 70's), it was common practice for us to ride the bus to school bringing our guns(cased of course), to school for afternoon hunting. All you had to do was check it in in the office and pick it up after school. Some days there'd be 20 guns in the principals office. Times sure have changed. Taz

Yeah its a cryin shame that you cant celebrate your success any more with out pissing off some peta a hole. If it wasnt against the law or Gods law id be a huntin anti gun folk and peta people.

God is hopefully coming fella's i dont think i can take much more of all this B.S!![:@] Not just this but, college tuition is going up again, we are outsourcing jobs, you never get what you pay for n e more, the presidential elcection is coming up, my work sucks, i havent got a deer yet, my girlfriend left me, my brother is back in jail, my mom is turning into an alcoholic again and cusses like a sailor, i am 25 yrs old and have two kids and dont know what the He!! i am going to do with my life, gas prices are through the roof and i have a big truck that drinks it like shots! I had my cable t.v turned off becuase the girlfriend didnt pay the bill, i have no couch...........she took it!, i aint had sex in 2 months! Boy i need a stiff drink!

I'm only 27 and I can remember it was a tradition to take the Friday off before hunting season. Too bad the hunt has become so commercalized. Antler hunters who would shoot in any direction regardless of what is beyond the target to kill a buck have started the downward slide of the pure.
