RE: My IA trail cam results!

Its illegal to shoot elk in Iowa. A guy got busted here last year for that. Although I'll be the first to admit, I'd be real tempted...

RE: Well SO much for Scent Lock

A deer's olfactory sense is almost the same as a dog's.

I prefer just to hunt the wind. That way I can fart, spit and pee (three things I enjoy doing) and not get busted :)

RE: Better Bow

you mean "clique?"

I shoot a Browning, because I've only got so much money to spend and I picked it used from a friend.

Does that mean Justin won't love me anymore? [:o]

RE: The Cost of Deer Tags

Iowa is $27 and you can get doe tags for $12. Landowner tags are $2. That is in addition to your hunting license and habitat fee.

RE: Input on this property

Looking at that now, I got the bottom border wrong. It should be just south of that clearing and above that finger to the bottom left. And on the top right, it does indeed cut off at the top of that...

RE: field dressin question

What is the etiquette on the gut pile? I've only hunted my own land and let the pile lay for the scavengers. But this year I've got permission to hunt somebody else's farm. What do you guys do in...

RE: Dog selection help- I've got a tall order here...

I've thought about a finished dog, and that is probably my best bet. I just hate to miss out on the puppy stages with my daughter, lol.

I know full well about initial cost versus cost of...

RE: Dog selection help- I've got a tall order here...

South Dakota NR seasons are 5 days each. That makes 10 days in the field, and I'd DEFINITELY take the dog. The in laws live in Huron, so we're there quite a bit. And if I could find more areas to...

RE: Dog selection help- I've got a tall order here...

So 15 days isn't enough to justify a dog? What is the cutoff? What's the minimum days needed to be in the field in order to have a dog in your opinion?

RE: Dog selection help- I've got a tall order here...

The more I read about GSPs, the more I think that will be my next dog. I found a breeder who appears to be reputable and has a pile of awards, references, etc; but more important to me he seems to...

RE: Dog selection help- I've got a tall order here...

RE: Dog selection help- I've got a tall order here...

You probably don't understand the context of "needy" that I'm using, because you have never met my current (and damn near worthless) lab mix, lol. I am happy with dogs that want to be around you and...

Teaching an older dog to bird hunt...

I'm relatively new to hunting, and have taken a real interest in pheasant hunting. I'm hesitant to get a new bird dog pup, since we've already got two medium-large sized dogs as house pets (a 3rd dog...

RE: Good hunting strategy or cheating?

well drinking with 8 hours before flying is against FARs, so I'll go with "illegal" for $100 Alex.
