in 20-ish yrs, I've KO'd in the neighborhood of 40 gobblers, and probably 15-20 fall hens. Some years I got skunked, and some years I limited out in multiple states.

For average ranges ( 20-100 yds), just about any of the centerfire .22's is plenty of gun, provided the shooter can put a bullet where he means to, and knows where to put it. Most of us, myself...

I suspect the problem is not with the larger cartriges, but the shooters who think it takes a .416 Rigby to stop awhitetail. The magnum guns MIGHT help turn a marginal shot into instant death... but...
