How high can a snake strike?

How high can a snake strike?
Another thread here about snake gaiters got me to thinking. Usually where I am the snakes don't start crawling hard until the last three weeks or so of turkey season, and when that happens I usually wear a pair of Lacrosse 18" snake boots. But when you think about it, you're only protected to just below the knee. So here's my question. Can a snake, such as a diamondback or a cottonmouth, strike higher than your knee? If so, then I'm screwed even wearing the snake boots. I might pull out my snakeproof hip waders this year that I normally use for coon hunting. So what do y'all think?

I believe most snake bites happen in the area between your knee and ankle. That's why the boots were developed, and why they go toyour knee. If you are sitting on the ground ( as is the case most of the time when calling in a turkey), you may have a chance of getting bit above the knee. If it bothers you, I suggest looking at the above post!

The ones I step on don't worry me, as much as the ones I might sit on.

Most snakebites occur to the hands and wrists. They're not crawling around looking for something to bite, they strike when you mess with them.
On a side note... in addition to most bites being on the hands, most bites happen to divorced, white, alcoholic males between the ages of 35-45.
