I have shot a 30-06 A bolt for many years with excellent results. I just bought a stainless stalker in the same caliber and will retire my old one to the safe with many fond memories.

Ruger 1's are classic rifles and like someone said, you also have the "cool" factor of a SS. Personally, I would go with the Browning in .270, they are just hard to beat.

The Zeiss Conquest, the SLC Sawr's, it is the cheaper model about $800-900.00.

Maybe I should have asked for the best binos for less than $1K

.243, recoil is light and have a much wider choice of ammo. I too, love the lever action, so you may consider a Browning BLR in .243, but it will be a little pricey, close to $800 unless you can find...
