Which 1911?

RE: Which 1911?
Well a Glock is not a 1911? But if you are looking for a Glock type pistol there are several choices. Springfield XDs, Para Ordanance and Steyr to name a few. If you want a 1911 style in a 40 or 9, I'd look into the Para line. They are nice and you can get std capacity or large capacity styles. They have a catalog on line

RE: Which 1911?
Guess I gave away my ignorance regarding the 1911's. I thought it was something that noted a semi-auto pistol with the slide etc.
I am looking for a gun like the Glock, Springfield, S&W, etc. and was wondering what you guys thought. As I said, I am leaning towards the Glock but would appreciate all opinions.
Thanks again.

Nope, you're not looking for a 1911.
I have always hated Glocks. Hated them. They have always felt horrible in my hand, and they still do. I think their grip angle is the worst in the industry. However I admit that I am about to purchase a 26 as my deep concealment piece for Summer weather. The are supremely reliable. They are just great guns.
I like the XDs a lot, and even more so that they have a safety on them. But as fat as the Glocks are, the XD's are even fatter.
I think two some questions you need to ask yourself, before you decide on a firearm, are:
- What am I going to use this for (self defense, home defense, range work, combination)
- am I going to carry this firearm?

The best bang for the buck in a .45 1911 is the taurus pt1911. If your budget will allow, the para ordnance is GREAT (own them personally). As to the polymer framed pistols, check out the excellent springfield armory XD or XDm series.

I carry a Glock 23 in 40 cal and love it, most reliable gun i've ever owned but there not for everyone. Springfield XD is nice to but I think there a little top heavy and to bulky for my taste but if you like it then thats what matters most.
