Default Need help choosing a 30 06

I am looking to by my first deer rifle, and would like it to be a bolt action 30 06. I would like to spend less than $300.

I would welcome suggestions of both new or used rifles to consider. If you have a good used 30 06 in that price range for sale, I would consider that also.

Thanks for your help.

I have a Mossberg 4x4 that I got last year from Dicks. i think it was a little over $400, but it has been a good gun. Shoots about 1 1/2 in groups using 165 gr Federal 165 seiira gamekings. Have killed 2 Deer and 3 Hogs with it ....dropped everyone in its tracks.

Take a look at the Marlin XL7. You can pick up one new for $280-300 without a scope. It has the adjustable trigger which is essential for good groupigs. I just bought a XL7 in .25-06 today. It is a economy priced rifle and shoots like a gun 2X the cost. I do not think you will be disappointed.

I have a Winchester model 70. It shoots great. The 30-06 is a good round because there is a wide variety of ammo for it.

It was my first deer rifle and it knocks 'em dead.

You should be able to pick up a nice used, or a new on sale Savage for that price. Can't go wrong with the 30-06. Good luck.

New-Marlin XL-7, used-Remington 700 or savage 110.

Check the pawn shops, a used Savage is very doable for under $300.

Do not get in any hurry and look for a good used Remington 700 ADL. This will last you a lifetime. You should be able to pick one up in that range. Give or take another $50. Tom.

Savage 111 in 30-06 for 275.00 at Dick's Sporting Goods. Inexpensive rifle, but a tack driver.
