RE: Speed is all you need! (?)

Krisken,

342 fps!! Wow, what broadhead do you use?

You' ve convinced me! I read that Hoyt has tested their bows with up to 40,000 dry fires without a blemish. I' m going to shoot 200...

RE: The case for heavy arrows for penetrating bone

Which is going to penetrate better, an arrow that can push with 50 pounds for 10 milliseconds or one that can push with 35 pounds for 10 milliseconds?

What stage of deer hunter are you?

From Robert Wegner:

1.) The shooter stage.

2.) The limiting out stage.

3.) The trophey stage.

4.) The methods stage, a stage characterized by great intensity. The hunter is...

RE: Maximum KE out of short draw length??

The impulse that is available for penetrating a deer - the force times time - is equal to the momentum of the arrow. Doubling the weight of the arrow will lead to about a 50% increase in momentum,...

RE: The case for heavy arrows for penetrating bone

In my mind I think that this is almost no longer arguable. I think that the momentum is the impulse that is available for penetration - the force times time.

If the momentum is 0.50 pound...

RE: The case for heavy arrows for penetrating bone

" Light" vs " heavy" is what I think is important - a " heavy" carbon might be the best of all worlds.

I think the 2 or 3 thousand pounds force, for that 0.2 milliseconds, is a reasonable...

The case for heavy arrows for penetrating bone

It is true that KE only increases a little bit when you switch to a heavier arrow. Based on some of Mulhaney' s bow reports doubling the weight of the arrow would lead to something like a 15%...

RE: IBO speed question

v2 = v1 * square root ( m1 / m2) = 290 * sqrt( 350 / 385) = 276.5

This assumes that NOTHING changes save for the weight of the arrow.

Actually the bow will be slightly more efficient with...

RE: 348 FPS?

I, on the other hand, enjoy sounding like I am lecturing. ;)

KE = m*v*v/2 = energy stored in the bow * bow efficiency = S * E

v = square root of ( S * E * 2 / m)

Increasing the...

If you shoot good with it and its not too noisy you' re well on your way.

RE: jumping the string

Krisken,

That's about the cleverest thing I've heard!

Arrow drop is roughly 1/2 g t squared.

So if you double the distance you have to quadruple the drop.
