How about the size of the base of the antlers? I think that is a way to tell the age.I have gotten deer with wider racks than others but had smaller bases.That made me think it was younger.

Big Earl,are you from Pa.? Crossbows are legal in parts of 5C and 5D during the archery season.and have been for a few years.I guess not everyone reads the book when they get their license each year....
