Need Help, Accuracy

I now the barrel isn't anything real special, but it is the barrel that is advertised in their catalog in 2003, AND the gun does not shoot well. Would you care if your 2005 F350 turned out to be a 2003, and had the old diesel engine in it, which maybe is slightlyless powerful and maybe gets worse gas mileage? I know that Rem. and Win. had deep inventories at certain times, but everyone I talk to is surprised that Weatherby did or does. Not only that, I ordered the gun special in 2003. I did not buy it off of Joe's Ace Hardware where it is reasonable to think it was not made yesterday.

I'm glad that Weatherby is standing behind their product. Hope your new rifle shoots better than your old one. I never saw this post until tonite, but I had a Ruger M77MKII in 30-06 that acted the same way your rifle was. I end up having my gunsmith glass bed/free float it, and then I put a Leupold on it and it shot like a champ.

Yeah Stubble, I'm sure that's it too, otherwise they would just advertise a Criterion barrel, vs Kreiger Criterion barrel. I guess everyone has their opinions of what is good though. I found one gunsmith in the area that isn't impressed with Kreiger barrels, and believes a good button rifled barrel is more accurate than a cut rifled. All I want is a decent shooting gun, which I hopefully will get. Shot three shots out of my 30 378 the other day, just to see if it shoots as good as I think because it has been a while,3 under 5/8 at 100
. And yeah, the verdict is still out on the 6.0 Lvs the 7.3 L, so far I think it's a wash.

You know I kinda sit here looking at these 5 pages and it does entertain me.
So lets be honest, you really didn't want advise or help with accuracy. You wanted people to agree with you. And tell you your doing the right thing. Kinda like gratification. Wouldn't that be alot easier from the start to say. Instead of the song and dancetrying to convinceeveryone that its not you and trying to prove it with 5/8" groups all the time? You know how many tackdriving tales we hear on here. Alot.
So let me get this straight. You found a guy who said he's a gunsmith that will say a without a doubt button rifled barrels are more accurate than cut barrels? See, this is where a knowlegde of a person shows. Little details. A barrel is a barrel. They should be uniform and they should be smooth. But what lot of people overlook, is the dominating factor is the chamber, action square, equal contact on lugs, bedding and crown. You can take a top notch barrel from Dan Lilja, and you mess up the chamber, or contact on lugs are out, and it won't shoot woth a darn. Or you can take a cheap remington barrel and make sure headspace is perfect, crown is square, and it can and does alot shoot your 5/8 MOA or less.

If you look back over the past 5 pages, past the entertainment, you will see that I was looking for help or suggestions, right up to the point I found out the gun was old and didn't have the barrel that the 03 catalog claimed it would when I ordered it. Remember, I was ready to have the action glass bedded at MY EXPENSE. At that point I didn't need anymore advice, I needed Weatherby to do the right thing. I kept you and others informed of the "going ons" because at least one person requested that, and I thought it might be of benefit to others.
What I find entertaining is the fact you claim Weatherby doesn't like you, because you won't buy from them anymore. Yet you have more less defended them in every one of your posts, and tried to get me off their backs. Are you trying to "make up" with them?
As far as the gun shop / gun smith I have the number if you would like it. I forget the guys name but if you talk to someone who seems to know it all, that is likely him. I'm sure you guys could talk about technical issues that I couldn't even spell, but I believe you would be ENTERTAINED.
"A barrel is a barrel" your quote, didn't you post several times that a criterion barrel is not in the same class as a Kreiger cut rifled barrel ? Now I am confused, not entertained.
And finally, I don't care if you and others believe my 5/8 group. I do not claim to be an expert marksman, I do not claim to know half as much as you about guns. I believe anyone with a pair of eyes and a finger could shoot very good groups with my rifle, many probably better than 5/8. I did not do anything to this gun except picked it off the shelf at Gander Mountain, so I can't even claim something I did made it this good, I don't even claim any special setup or shooting form. The reason I told you this story is I figured maybe you could read into it and realize that I am not flinching with the 7mm because of recoil. Then I told the 5/8 story so that if anyone was looking for an accurate 30 cal. factory rifle, they might consider an accumark. So, if your looking for a pissing match, look elsewhere, you are by far more knowledgable and abettermarksman than I, heck you are probably taller as well.

Jhunter111, I have been following this thread since you started it and am glad Weatherby is replacing the gun. They always in my experience stand behind their products(I have used them 2x and they came thru)and hopefully the gun you get will shoot to your expectations. I have never seen a company create such a controversy like Weatherby..kinda reminds me of Zeiss or Swarovski scopes. Some people like them and some don't and the ones that don't really hate them. Not sure what you paid for it but I have a ballpark figure in my head and if so you could have spent a lot more and gotten a lot less with some manufacturers and worse customer service. AT the end of the day if it shoots welland you like it is all that matters. Barrel on the gun was probably a SACO barrel since Weatherby either owns them outright or has them contracted to build their barrelled actions.

Weatherby has always made me happy. This would have been the exception, and I am very glad things turned out as they did. Again, very accurate guns (I won't repeat how accurate though) and great knock down power. I owned a 300 Sporter, 340 Stainless/Synthetic, 30-378, two338-378s, and 7mm, without any complaints until the last. All very easy to shoot, except the 340 which left me and my brother bruised for a few days. TheAccumarks with an SB serial number have the SACO barrels. Weatherby phased in Criterion barrels in 01 / 02in some of their guns, but by 03all Accumarks have Criterion barrels. THIS IS MY UNDERSTANDING AND MAY NOT BE ABSOLUTLY ACCURATE.
I agree though, I guess it's love em or hate em.
