RE: Coyotes in Fairfax/NOVA

I forgot to add that they're definitely in Rock Creek Park on the DC side as well. Wildlife can move fairly freely through the Potomac Gorge and then come up through the park land surrounding bike...

RE: Coyotes in Fairfax/NOVA

VA Shadow - I live in Arlingotn as well and haven't seen them either. However, there have been reports in the Sun Gazette, confirmed by animal control, of coyotes in Arlington. The latest I remember...

RE: CNN's article on the disappearance of Acorns this year

They're in every county in Virginia, including Arlington and Fairfax.

RE: any Va. bear hunters?

The best advice I can give you is to try and find some private ground that is near or borders the SNP. We've been covered up in bear this year and last.

RE: Bear huntings different...No?

Even among the group of about 20 guys in my hunt club about half of them have no interest in killing a bear and we see them quite frequently. As for me, I took my first one (with a bow) earlier this...

RE: VA firearms season tmrw...

I'm still not dry. I don't know what was worse the rain or the fog.

RE: Acorn crop in Va.

Almost no acorns and just a few hickory's where I am in Rappahannock County. Last year was like walking on marbles. This year nada.

RE: Got a Bear

Very nice bear! I got one with my Ecal last week as well, but nothing even close to that size.

RE: How's the season going VA Archers?

I haven't been seeing many deer so far. Maybe it's because there are so many of these critters running around my hunt club:

RE: Virginia Public Land - looking for any info on QUANTICO, THOMPSON, OR CF PHELPS

I used to hunt Thompson and took a couple of fairly nice deer out of it. My advice would be to access it from the gravel road that runs alont the top of Blue Mtn and hunt your way down. Lots more...

RE: For those who hunt with muzzleloaders

NCHawkeye - I love the curly maple on those flinters. I want to build one like that for my next project.

RE: Help with VA game laws

You will also need a ML license if you're going to hunt that season and a National Forrest Stamp.

RE: Bear Problem

Have you ever tried to "squirrel proof" a bird feeder? It's pretty much impossible. Same deal here.

RE: I'd like to make a cat curious

The best trail cam pic I've seen of a bobcat was one that was drawn in by a gut pile. Should work on coyotes, foxes and other critters too.

RE: Gas or charcoal?

I don't mind admitting that I've switched almost exclusively to gas. I use my grill 3-4 times a week 9 months out of the year and at least once a week even in the winter. There's just no way I could...

RE: Not so tasy treat!!

I think a couple others mentioned it, but it sounds like you over cooked it. Serve it medium rare at most and you'll not have that livery taste.

RE: Lost the farm....

It might complicate the things a bit, but you could sell it subject to life time hunting rights for the family.

RE: Hunting idea for those who have kids/grandkids

On a related note, I now keep a pair of wire cutters handy on Christmas and birthdays to cut down on my frustration on dealing with all those little wires.

RE: Sunday Hunting in Virginia

That post is just about the best summary in support of the issue I've ever seen. Do you mind if I use it in some correspondence I'm planning with the Governor, General Assembly and VDGIF?

RE: Sunday Hunting in Virginia

I hear what you're saying, but based on this map it sure looks like most of the states in the bible belt are hunting on Sunday:

Sunday Hunting in Virginia

It looks like this issue may be heating up again. If you're supportive, this would be a good time to contact your representative at the VDGIF and contact the Governor to remind him of his campaign...

Rust Spots

Don't make me admit to how this happened, but I've got a few rust spots on the barrel of my Knight Wolverine. The bore is clean, but the outside has of the stainless barrel (and "yes" I know...
