Default Hunting idea for those who have kids/grandkids

While unwrapping some birthday presents for my 3year old son, i became quite frustrated with the 1000 or so coated wire twist ties that hold a toy tractorin its box.
An idea dawned on me that these would be perfect to secure my tags to a downed deer or turkey. The wires are plastic coated and cut to about an 10" length. They wrap perfect around an antler, ear or turkey legand work better than twine or string. So the next time you buy a toy for your girl or boy, hang on to that wire!

I've used bread ties for years.

I use the safety pin from one of my scent wafers. I just stick it through the ear. Tx tags have some type of coating and are pretty tough. I've never had a problem with this method and I always have the wafers with me even when I'm not using them as a cover scent.

I use zip ties. I bought a bag of them that are about 8 inches long and small size, I think they call them wire ties. Work great.

Safety pins are the best way to tag a deer if you're having it mounted. Here in PA all deer must be tagged in the ear, and I hate it when I get a cape in that has a ripped ear. But the safety pins work quite well.

Yes good idea. I used bread ties for years, until the loaves of bread started coming with those plastic tab things. Now I use plastic cable straps, they are very secure. One use only though,

I also like to tag mine deer in the ear. I also hunt land that is owned by a dairy farmer. I was able to get some of the ear tags for cows and I havent used anything else since.

On a related note, I now keep a pair of wire cutters handy on Christmas and birthdays to cut down on my frustration on dealing with all those little wires.

not a bad idea!! i use bread ties or zip ties. zip ties work great and no worries about them coming undone. i also shove that sucker into the ear pretty far so it dont snag on anything.
