Only killed a few deer with a shotgun, but the one I used was a remington 1187 with a rifled slug and a 3-9 leupold. One was at 30 yards and the other was 80 yds -shrug- can' t really give you a max...

Only time I dropped my bow it was out of a 18foot stand and the deer didn' t give me a chance to climb down and get it;). I guess if I were hunting on the ground, I would try and slowly pick it up...

cpac Turkeyrambler pretty much nailed it what I do is shoot different shot and length shells and count all the shot in the neck/head I have had the best luck with 3 1/2" #4 lead but all guns pattern...
