20ga. shotgun, bird barrel, slugs or buckshot?

I have a 20 ga. shotgun single shot. I normally use it for rabbit or bird hunting, but might need it to go deer hunting. What type of shot should I use and why?

I heard a lot of guys saying not to look into a deers eyes as it's coming in to you. Why avoid eye contact?

If you have a Buck or a nice doe that is walking by you, how do you get them to stop so you can get a shot off? How long do you have before they run?
