RE: Does this sound right?

I'm hunting with a fair bit less than that- 300gr saboted bullet, 85gr triple se7en. My terrain keeps my shots close.

trick for keeping powder/barrel dry?

I just went out for my first ML hunt. it was cold, windy, and rainy- never saw a deer. It was a nice walk in the woods with a few friends and a few muzzleloaders.

When I loaded in the truck at...

RE: Traditions Pursuit LT: first impression

I got off half a dozen shots between downpours here.

80gr T7 (FF) with a T7 209 primer, pushing a 300gr Hornady hollowpoint snugly nestled in a crush-rib sabot: 25 yards muzzle-target; open...

RE: My first missfire....what could it be?

I'm not an expert but powder does attract water- even in a closed bottle. Last season's powder may have absorbed enough moisture to degrade.

RE: Traditions Pursuit LT: first impression

It was a good day. I was plinking- not shooting enough for a pattern, just having fun. I'll do a serious run this weekend, with more formal notes and measurements and really finding out what the ML...

Traditions Pursuit LT: first impression

So, I finally got to make a bit of smoke today. I was just plinking at a cardboard box, around 25 yards away- basically introducing myself to the ML. All bullets from Cabelas, all in crush-rib...

New inline

Walmart stinks.

I ordered an NEF Hunstman through them two or three weeks ago. They failed to actually order it, so I wasted weeks waiting for them. Tonight, in disgust, I went there, cancelled...

RE: cheap AND good bullets?

I've made my purchase!
100 crush-rib sabots, .45->.50
50 300 grain HP Hornady rifle bullets
50 swaged 480-grain spitzers
and a cleaning thingie- may be a gimmick but looks good to me:...

RE: (super-noob question) which brand to start?

I was in fact looking at that gun... thank you for verifying its potential.

is 2x7 a good range for the scope, considering my New England underbrush, or should I try to find a lower range?

Lyman Cogar ignition problem: solved (?)

I just bought a Lyman Cougar .50 inline. It cost in the neighborhood of $160 and is remarkably accurate (sighting in, I got one ragged hole in the target).

The Cougar uses the old #11 caps....

RE: Hornady 240gr xtp

I haven' t used any on deer yet (November 1, I' m up in a tree looking to try them!) but they pattern quite well out of my Lyman Cougar, and they sure tear the heck out of my lumber-pile backstop :)

I' m no expert, but 1/48 is generally considered a good twist for patched ball. Your maxi bullets may just ned more spin to stabilize.

RE: .30cal > .223 sabots- anyone try them?

The 80-grain is a HPBT bullet. I don' t have it; my local gun shop does. They' re professional enough that I don' t expect it to be a 78-grain rounded up or any such.

I plan to use a 30-06,...

RE: .30cal > .223 sabots- anyone try them?

80 grain .223 is not a varmint bullet; it is the heaviest bullet available (to my knowlege) in that caliber.

Thank you for the advice.
