RE: Semi auto shotgun
i dont know of too many semi autos that are under 400. i only own brownings and remingtons and their entry semi autos are usually no less than $500, just a plain 870 WM pumpwill run about$600 ....around $400for the express. unless you look for a cheaper used model, icant think of anything new. even used rems. and brownings like the A5 willbring over$500 sometimes. Good luck

RE: Semi auto shotgun
but a good light weight shotgun would be IMHO a browning silver or a benelli superblack eagle.....neither of which are close to $400 tho, the rem 1100's i wouldnt recommend since they only handle some shell sizes......the 11-87 however will handle a better variety, great gun but not the lightest. Same for brownings A5, probably my favorite shotgun ever (IMHO there is no semi auto made made as nicely. and it functions perfectly) but they are heavy pigs.

A lot of locals are buying a Charles Daly 20 or 12 ga for such purposes. They do well. I have shot them at a patterning board but that's all. They really like them and are seem to hold up, these guys really abuse them.
I have a Mossberg 935 and it is a good gun for the money but you don't need a 3.5 for your use.
May want to look up the Ch. Daly and see what you think. (the ones they are buying are camo, but it is a slick, semi shiny finish???)

Check out that Stoeger M2000!!!! I got mine used for 250 bucks and love it! My only complaint is that it has jammed occasionally, but it has been reliable and good to me for the most part.
You won't find a better deal than that gun! If you want top of the line though, get a Browning gold.

I HAVE SEEN SOME VERY LIGHT FRANCHIS FOR UNDER 400 (USED) I DONT SEE THEM OFTEN, BUT I KNOW THEY ARE VERY LIGHT. I SELDOM SEE BROWNINGS OR REMINGTONS UNDER 400 THOUGH, BUT IF YOU SHOP AROUND, YOU MIGHT SCORE ON A NICE USED ONE.

Save some money and just get a gun that'll last better. Go for the 11-87 it may be a touch heavy but your not gonna find a whole lot better gun and they arent that terrible much more than what your already looking at.
