Remington 700

I went to Wannenmacher's gun show here in Tulsa today.
Man, the prices were HIGH out there today. Tikka WH in stainless/laminate was 650.00 (got mine for 599.00) and the Franchi Veloce O/U 20 gauge was 1350.00 new. I got mine for 900.00 at the same gun show a year and a half ago. Ruger M77's, Remington 700, and Winchester 70's were averaging 650.00 there. I also couldn't believe the number of Coopers, Dakotas, etc, and they were all going for 1500.00 and up! I even saw one gun that a guy wanted $10,000.00 for. I need to win the lottery!

You aren't kidding about those prices. Those people appear to be VERY proud of their guns.I use to enjoy going to shows. The last several I went to had run of the mill junk and were very high priced. It might be different if the show was in a bigger town. Now I watch gunsamerica when I'm looking for something special.

I went to Wannenmacher's gun show here in Tulsa today. You would not believe all the 700's in there. New and used, nobody was touching them. In fact, I ran across one guy who accurizes firearms and he said he'd rather work with a Savage action than either the 700 or a Winchester. I guess Remington better get their butts in gear and get back to what made them famous.

Okay, here's your reminder. Never send a gun to this area.
I was going to write down here alot what he told me, including some of the targets groupings he showed me. But since he's obviously an idiot, you wouldn't understand anyway.
Oh, and Remington and Winchester hold their value so well because people are willing to pay the price for those names. Even though there are better rifles out there.

If your gunsmith truly said that he is a complete idiot. If you like Savages that is fine and I understand they shoot well. I had the unfortunate privilege of owning a 110 in 300 win mag a few years back when they were made the one with the detachable magazine. What a POS. This was the lineup that made them almost go bankrupt until present management took over . Is it the best shooting gun out there seriously doubt it. For that look at Browning Abolts,Remingtons and Rugers and others. Features that I want in a gun it offers none except some semblance of accuracy. It is cheaply made, has a terrible magazine design, non field strippable bolt , the bore is rough as a dirt road and is coyote ugly to top it off. Life is too short to hunt and shoot ugly guns. If you doubt this please list all the Gunsmiths out of your area that build Savage Custom Rifles.

The consenses seems the same here on the 710. Not Remington's best effort. The Ruger 77s are good rifles. I also like the Browning A-bolts and the Remington 700s.
If you're on a budget, don't forget to check out the used gun rack. You can find some nice 700s sitting on the racks there. I just picked up a Ruger 77 Lefty in 7mm Mag for $350. It has a couple of dings in the stock but the bore was clean. You could see the rifle was used, but not abused. You may find just what you're looking for.
Now if this weather in the NE ever breaks, I may even get out and try my new used 77 out.

I'll take Browning, Ruger, Tikka, Savage, Howa, Winchester, any day over a Remington. All you're paying for is the name, and they better get their quality back up before they wind up going under. It seems like they are doing nothing but cutting corners and their quality is really down. My case in point, the 710. They aren't even smart enough to stop production and admit they were wrong for that one.
So you see, we all have our opinions, but to call someone an idiot because they don't believe what you believe, especially since you don't know them, well, it's idiotic.

mentioned above) and had over 300.00 worth of accurizing work done on it. Still, the best group it ever managed was 1.5" at 100 yards. It was sold within a few days at a gun show.

Yep any gun that shoots 1.5 inch groups(Weatherby Guarantee) should be thrown out in the Garbage or better yet mail it to me , I'll pay postage for that one and any others people in your area are unloading. You make an statement condemning 2 fine Rifle lines and then quote an Idiot of a Gunsmith and expect to get no flack about it. Get Real.
Here again, you're proving that your lights are on, but nobody is home. The only rifle line I condemned was Remington, and that's from personal experience. I was only relaying what this gunsmith (who makes more money than I do) relayed to me. So you really should get your facts straight.
And yes, when my last two rifles (both Brownings) will shoot 3/4" groups with factory ammo, and 1/2" groups with reloads, a highly touted Remington shooting 1.5" groups won't be around very long. And who cares about Weatherby's guarantee? I've got a lever action 30-30 that will shoot better than 1.5" groups.
I don't come here to get flack, and I try my best not to give any flack. If that's why you come to these boards, maybe you should get a life.
