Default Remington 700

Im getting rid of my Remington 710 30.06 and I'm looking for a replacement. There was nothing at all wrong with the 710 shooting wise, but I couldnt stand the performance of the bolt action. It seemed like I had to bring it down to my waste and slap it with a closed fist to close the chamber. I was thinking about the Remington 700 BDL with a Nikon Monarch scope. I dont want something too expensive, since i am a college student and always want the cheapest way out, but I learned when i purchased the 710. Any suggestions or comments on the 700 or any other guns worth mentioning in the $450-$590 range?

Dont think you could buy a Rem. 700 BDL for $590.
But then again I may be wrong. I thought that they started in the $699 to $799 Range.

You might look at buying one of the Howas, or if you shop at Walmart they have the Rem. and Win combos fo pretty cheap..

I think that they may sell the Rem. 700 ADL for around four to five hundred dollars.

You may also look at the Tikas. they make a fine rifle for the money.

Leroy.

Welcome to the forum MovementShot, I hope you don't live up to your user name LOL..Yep ! you bought a Rem710 and found it's not the best. They are crude being nice about it.The 710 has probably gotten more attention on this forum, then any other gun .Unfortunately most of it negitive.I have a few guns to suggest.Since you're on a budget look into the Savages. Very accurate rifles. The Tikka Whitetail Hunters are reasonably priced. My favorites are the Ruger M-77's. The Remington 700's are nice rifles.I've had a few of them. Remington's quality and customer service have really declined over the last several years. Until that changes I won't consider another Remington. The Winchester Model 70 is another good choice.See which one fits you and is within your price range.Save up and buy a quality scope not one of the lower end scopes. The rifle can only be as good as the shooter and the scope will allow not to mention the ammunition.

I have to agree with Ruger-Redhawk and go with a Ruger M77, they are a high quality rfle, and in my opinion are about as accurate as the guy doin the shootin.... Why would you think about another Remington product if you had bad luck with your first one???

If your 710 was junk, maybe you would look at something else. I would recommend a Winchester Model 70. I picked up "shadow" for under $400 with scope. this gun is really nice to say the least. I have put about 200 rounds thru it at the range already and it's never failed. Check it out. Mine came pretty accurate out of the box too. I got mine at wal-mart, but i have seen my same gun go for over $550 at gun shops. SAME DAMN GUN TOO..

I know what you mean about the 710. i looked at one. "junk".

Personally, I'd consider something like a Ruger 77, Winchester 70, Howa, Tikka, etc.. After my last experience with a Remington 700 I'm not too inclined to buy another. Besides the poor fit and finish, the major problem I had with mine was a failure to extract fired cases.

I went to Wannenmacher's gun show here in Tulsa today. You would not believe all the 700's in there. New and used, nobody was touching them. In fact, I ran across one guy who accurizes firearms and he said he'd rather work with a Savage action than either the 700 or a Winchester. I guess Remington better get their butts in gear and get back to what made them famous.

Man, the prices were HIGH out there today. Tikka WH in stainless/laminate was 650.00 (got mine for 599.00) and the Franchi Veloce O/U 20 gauge was 1350.00 new. I got mine for 900.00 at the same gun show a year and a half ago. Ruger M77's, Remington 700, and Winchester 70's were averaging 650.00 there. I also couldn't believe the number of Coopers, Dakotas, etc, and they were all going for 1500.00 and up! I even saw one gun that a guy wanted $10,000.00 for. I need to win the lottery!
