I am going to put together a slug gun. What do you guys recomend for the gun? pump? auto? etc. what brand? what kind of scope? I have slug hunted very little and never even shot. when the chance comes up I wanna make sure it all goes off without a hitch. thanks in advance

i reccomend a semi auto as well. they usually are nicer to shoot than a pump. also put a fixed objective 4x scope. most of our shooting is like 50-100 yards and a 4x scope seems to work the best for us. i also reccomend a cantilever scope mount b/c a gun may expand or contract b/c of the cold. have fun

It all depends on how much you can spend. I shoot a mossburg pump 500 and love it. Semi- autos are nice, but they are expensive. The mossburg can be bought for around $300. Savage has a bolt action slug gun for about the same money. As far as scopes go, the 4 power fixed models work fine. Tony

You didn' t say what state your from.
NY is 1 state that is looking in doing away with semi autos.
has not happened yet but might!
They clame that a hunter with an semi autos tend to shoot more at running deer.
They also say (but I can find no info on this)most shootings during hunting season that happen in the woods or field happen with
semi autos. due to the fact you can shoot faster than you can be sure of your target.
Saddly That part I have seen.

Jersey hunter has it right, in my opinion. I use almost the exact set up he describes and I love it. It is nice to have the adjustable power scope. I also like the cantilever barrel because I can switch barrels without impacting the accuracy of the scope I already sighted in.
My vote is for 12 Gauge, Semi-auto, 22 inch rifled barrel, camo pattern, cantilevered barrel and a 1.5-4.5x scope. I have the Browning Gold Deer Hunter with a Swift scope. Deadly to 125 yds, no problem.

H&R Ultra all the way .....only one shot but thats all it takes. It does weigh close to 10lbs so if you need lighter go with the youth model. Doest just take down deer it knocks em over ....
