RE: Chickpeas as a food plot?

Talked to a farmer friend of mine. He grows them as a crop. He told me the deer walk through his alfalfa, clover and other crops to get to the chickpeas.

I am going to give them a try.

Chickpeas as a food plot?

I am going to try five acres this year. Pricy. About $90 per acre to plant. We are in a low moisture area (10 -15 inches per year) so I hope this works.

Any one else plant chickpeas?

RE: Size needed for "Safe Haven"

My experience has been that you need an area that has natural boundaries so that the deer know as soon as they cross that line they are safe.

An isolated wood or some distinguishing feature that...

RE: Barbed Wire Fence

Keep it under 4 feet no more than 4 strands, preferably 3 and you will have no problems.

RE: Deer harvest tactics;Whats to small??

I too think the better rule is to take out the old bucks. Aging on the go can be tough, but doable.

If you really want to manage a deer herd, maybe taking out the morphidites -- the bad genetics...
