Chickpeas as a food plot?

I am going to try five acres this year. Pricy. About $90 per acre to plant. We are in a low moisture area (10 -15 inches per year) so I hope this works.

Any one else plant chickpeas?

I guess it depends on what kind of wildlife you are supplementing.

No, we buy and eat the ChickPeas and Pigeon Peas, but have planted Pigeon Peas on 1/2 acreand had toadd another 2' to the fence to keep the deer from jumping in.

Talked to a farmer friend of mine. He grows them as a crop. He told me the deer walk through his alfalfa, clover and other crops to get to the chickpeas.

I am going to give them a try.
