I am looking at leasing land about 4 hours away from me, but it wouldn't be my everyday hunting land anyway. It would be managed and cared for and then hunted in a manner where I expect to take 1-3...

I agree about the private land, but if you use some of the resources on the DEC site, you will be pleasantly surprised to find a lot of out-of-the-way state lands open to hunting, where you won't see...

Meant to add... some people in NY act like having to hunt a different zone one year is like having to go out of the country. Although I do agree that there should be more doe permits.

This year, I got both DMPs I asked for. Just look out west and you will be thnakful that you don't have to deal with a lottery for your main tag and only for DMP's.

Phade, that's what I see. Is it everyone? No, of course not, but on the public land I hunt in the Catskills, most people are 1 day hunters. I stay two days and EVERY YEAR more than half the trucks...

In NY, mostly the Catskills on public land, but also a couple spots in Stueben and Schoharie counties.

I hunt all over NJ and love every minute of it, all public land.

What's never been mentioned is managing NY according to region, as is done just next door in NJ.

Some years, the zone I hunt has been 3pts to a side, other years, no limit. Some zones, 2 deer...

From what I read, there are more doe permits this year also, but remember, in NY, this has only been implemented in certain zones, it is not statewide yet (should be though...)
