RE: Hunt club name

Just be patient and keep looking around your camp. A name will become evident. I named my camp Dragonhead because a buddy looked at a limb on an ancient oak and discovered a limb profile that looks...

RE: once a spike always a spike

Genes and food are the important factors in deer developement. It has been proven over and over. I have personally seen 3 bucks that appeared like culls(by early standards and beliefs)turn into B&C...

RE: Hi Gas Prices..How Much Will it Effect Your Hunting

Now ya'll done gone and got me to thinkin'. I built my camp 1 1/2 miles from the nearest road in a swamp. Everything is run by propane , kerosene, and 12 volt. It takes about ten gallons of gas to...

RE: salt block or not?????

It is too late for a salt block to do you any good this year. If you put one out it will start washing into the ground this winter and be good for the animals next year and for many years to come....

RE: 300 win mag vs 7mm Rem mag for deer/elk

Ballistically they are close but the 300 Win Mag will hold up down range better. Also a .308 hole is better than a .284 especially if you roll your own and select the proper bullet for the particular...

RE: A Little Gloating!

Lets see here, S. Carolina, August, 90 plus degrees. I suggest that you pack a big can of deet and plan on short hunts. Hope the camp has A/C and a frig full of cold ones. Good luck Bro

RE: Moving my mineral lick

Just a little input here. I found that minerals when applied to stumps and downed trees serve all the animals for years. First they eat on the mineral soaked rotten wood and as time passes the...

RE: Best stand site?

Turkey Fan and dough boy know their stuff. Only thing I can add is the wind factor. So, a high stand is better in the early fall when the winds are variable.

RE: whats your age and how many deer you killed

62 and lost count when we started thinning deer over on the Mississippi river. Last time I kept count I had around 125 bucks and about that many does. We had to thin the herds to give the starving...

RE: 300 WSM too much?

Ditto what Skeeter said. I've been handloading for 48 years and bullet selection is the key. No such thing as TOO MUCH gun but there is too little a gun. The animal deserves more than to be chased...

RE: Location - Location - Location !

Location would be the most important factor if you aren't happy unless you see deer every day. I bought a new camp in '01 and the whole property was very thick bottomland hardwood just off a river in...

RE: When do deer start eating corn?

Ditto most of the posts above. Iown a camp off the Big Black river in central Mississippi. The deer seem to hit the corn fields soon as the raccoons start pulling down the stalks and stripping the...

RE: the question-do I take the shot or wait a year?

Ken, Deer tend to stay in the same area year after year unless something dramatic happens to their food source. Since you are the only one hunting the area there is a good chance you and the buck...
