RE: Permission, lease, own, public

We own about 300 acres of good deer land. My friend owns about 400 acres of good land as well.

When we go upstate, we've got a 200 acre lease that we camp & hunt on. We've also got permission...

RE: Texas Javelina Help

I would suggest the Junco Ranch, a 47K acre spread located between Freer & Encinal in Webb County. But I don't know how they handle hog & javelina hunting in the fall, as it might interfere with...

RE: New concept for Tree stand (opinions?)

I don't know if I'd like the idea of climbing up those sticks with the straps they way they are.

Then again, I don't really feel all that comfortable on a ladder stand.

RE: Help with unwanted residents of my treestand

If you're not worried about burning down the woods, a flaming arrow seems appropriate.

You're certainly up Feces Creek without a paddle. No easy way to combat a hornet's next that is 30' up a...

Speed is a neccessary thing. I just don't place as much importance on it as some people do.

RE: Arrow Weight

I went with the 340's for a little extra weight & spine.

I can't really tell any difference in POI between the 100 gr and 125 gr heads. Since that is the case, I don't really see any need to...

RE: deer rifle on a budget ????

The Vanguard (made by Howa) is a quality rifle. Accurate and strong, but a bit on the heavy side (at least in 300 Wby and 7mm Rem Mag).

The advantage to the Vanguard over the 700 ADL is a...

RE: Arrow Weight

I made a mistake. Minimum arrow weight listed on the bow is 390 grains.

425 is still OK? Should I go back to the 125 gr heads for that little bit of extra weight?

IIRC, the IBO speed listed for my Nova was around 275 fps.

Which is plenty fast enough for me. Don't suck me into your...

RE: need some help picking a climbing stand

Bought a Tree Lounge last year, wouldn't think about hunting out of another stand now. Almost too comfortable! No problem staying in it all day though.

RE: what kind of tree is leaf off of?

Possibly a chestnut oak.

http://www.cnr.vt.edu/dendro/dendrology/syllabus/qprinus.htm

The smooth lobed leaf indicates a species in the white oak family. Good deer attractant.

I'm not really worried about speed, per se. This thing is pretty darn fast the way it is. I just wonder if I'm gaining anything by switching to a 100 gr head.

If not, that will save me about...
