deer rifle on a budget ????

I think Howa makes the Vanguard for Weatherby. From what I can tell they're very very similar, and the price makes them even more so.
I'm in the market for a new rifle too (deer & whatever), and leaning towards a .270 (Win mod 70) in a local shop, but I've been hearing good things about the 25-06 too.

When I went on a hunt to texas I took my 25/06 and it turned out all of the guides also used them .. They said it was one of the most popular calibers of the locals .. It worked well for me and also works well for the bigger deer here in PA ..BIll

they make the Remington 710 now in 7mm Remington Magnum. Great gun, all teh bugs have been worked out of it. i am a .270 Win fan myself. all you need for anything on this continent, a .270, .30-06, or 7mm remginton mag. Jack O'Connor used nothing but a .270 for almost everything he killed.

hey buddy you cant beat a savage tacticle 308. about 425$$$ not bad and you will never need another deer gun..its wat i use in montana...also a pile of texans use 30-30 bush guns a hard hitter but im not sure of the price, also with that savage 308. if you are a seasoned shot you can level deer at well over 300 yards.....

I feel the same way as frizzellr. Whatever you do, don't buy the Remington 710. They are not quality rifles. Believe me, I used to own one.
Spend a little more and get a Remington ADL or a Savage and you won't be sorry.

I have to agree with Friz and Jimbo, I handled 100 year old mausers and mosin's that were just coated with cosmoline that cycled smoother than the 710. They may have worked all the safety issues out but imo it's a disposable gun. I would recommend you look at the Howa 1500. It's in your price range for a package gun but I would mount some better glass.
