Yes that is fine, we go it all the time. I work for a nursery and thats how alot of potted trees come bare root and we pot them up.... Just use a big enough pot, you dont want to cut off any more...

Im working on a German shorthair I found a breed close by im gonna go look at their pups probly tommarow. their pretty cheap but they claim the parents hunt really good. I guess we'll see.
