Mineral block?
#1
About 5 years ago I bought a mineral block, can't remember where but think TSC. Man that thing held up and the deer had the area around that block about a 10 foot circle tramped to bare dirt and you could see they licked the heck out of it. Well it was down to a tiny little chunk a year ago so I bought another block at TSC to replace it. Now this one just fell all to pieces in less that 6 months. Of course they are digging up and I presume eating the soil where it was as there is a hole.
Any Idea what the hard block I had gotten 5 years ago was?

hard to say, they make and sell a ton of different brands
you might get lucky by actually asking the store you got it at, what brands they USED to carry and see if they can help that way
I have used a lot of them over the yrs , never got more than a yr out of anyone , of all different brands, most don't make it 6 months to be honest
might have just got a odd ball one the first time??
Trophy rocks , do last about the longest IMO
but many deer in many place I have place them could care less about them>>
minerals are a hit or miss based on what your area deer needs or NOT are!
one of them what works here , doesn't always mean it works every where deal!

I always put out a mineral block every spring and it is usually gone by October. I've never heard of one lasting for almost 5 years. Could be a specific brand like mrbb said or you could have got really lucky with it lasting that long!

also, if it lasted 5 yrs, I doubt your deer REALLY like it
as a hot mineral site gets pounded pretty hard, seen then beat some blocks with there hoofs to break them up when they like one!
or dig 4+ ft holes where they were?
and did that in a short period of time, not 5 yrs??

I usually put out a 50lb salt block then add some Lucky Buck to it as it melts down in to the ground....I put out 2 Trophy Rocks last month and with all the rain we got they completely disapeared. The good thing is the Deer are digging up the ground in both areas more then ever before.Another thing I do is to make an Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda Lick where I dig up the ground in a circle about as round as a trash can lid, then break up the soil and add 1/2 a box of the Arm & Hammer to the top soil, then spread out around 15-20lbs of rock salt and the other 1/2 of the Arm & Hammer. The rain will work it into the ground and the Deer love it...I refresh it every 2-3 months.
