If the rut is on, the moon shouldn' t matter much. IMO
Good Luck!

Sadly enough a full moon DOES effect rut activity. Or more precisely visual confirmation of such movement. Always hunt daylight to dark during the rut, but ESPECIALLY during a full moon phase. Typically the first half hour of light is good, then the 10-2 time period is good followed by the last hour of light in the afternoon. BUT as we all know, when a hot doe is in the mix, ALL bets are off!!!

Go early, stay late and pack food/drinks!

To answer your question about my experience of hunting full moon in all honesty is 3 days prior and 3 days after is the lowest amount of activity I will see during hunting. Funny this goes against most moon phase theories, but it is my realtime data that shows this 7 day period is the toughest to hunt in my area. With rut I would say that if you hunt hard and areas deer feel safe to roam(ie close to their bedrooms) you should be fine. Especially if the weather is normal or just below normal daytime temps.

If I may pose a question, have other hunters found similar findings with respect to full moon as me (days leading up and days after full moon are low activity times)? Just curious.

Good Luck!!

Even before I had heard the theories about the full moon, my own experiences had shown me that the morning following a full moon ON A CLEAR NIGHT provided for bad hunting---no sightings whatsoever. In the past few years though, I have had a number of exceptions to this rule. I have seen large numbers of deer in the evening of a full moon and two years ago I took a nice eight point the morning following a full moon. Of course, it was the rut and he was trailing a doe.

Shot my best bow buck at 5:00 PM in the afternoon on a full moon, an 11 pointer! Go hunting and good luck!

Myself and the guys i hunt with always have found that in a full moon we never do any good...
we usually set in the morning and make some small chases during the day and go set in the evening.
It is just crappy deer hunting for us with a full moon...
