How far will you take a shot?

That is a hard one. I practice pretty far sometimes and shoot well most of the time like 50 yds or so and sometimes further. Last year I was shooting great at 65-70 yds but I would never shoot at an animal that far. I would probly shoot 40 yds. at an average sized animal and a little further at a large animal like elk but only if the conditions were right and the animal wasnt spooked.
That being said I have never shot an animal more than 25 yds.

I have my stands set up where I will hopefully bring my victims within 30 yards, preferably 20-25. If I have a shot over 30 yards, I'm gonna have to feel really confident in it before i shoot. I practice out to 40 yards usually, and I'll take a shot or two around 50 or 60 yards just for fun, but never ever on an animal. That one guy thought he was Fred Bear reincarnated, modern day Robinhood or something. Notice he hasn't been back. Maybe God struck him down in church for lying!

Still here and still shooting flys out of the air haha
actually its not that hard to shoot from 80-100 if you practice,I understand not everyone has the time but I`m a day trader so after 3:00 I`m out shooting my bow almost everyday, lucky me(or just blessed I guess)

It`s just pointless to try to tell someone that they can shoot 100+ if they won`t practice the shot.
Haveing said that-you need a drop away rest on a fast bow that has been paper tuned with the right arrow, and all your arrows are the same of course.
My girlfriend shoots from no less than 50 yards,I don`t allow it.When we`ve shot our arms off we go right to 20 yardsfor 4-6 arrows and have a good laugh.

That's awesome that you do have the time to practice and get that good, wish I did. But I don't doubt that you're shootin like you say, I was just pokin a little fun of course. The farthest I've ever shot my bow is from 60 yards playing around with some buddies. We were shootin from 30 yards out for about 20 minutes, and two of us were shootin really good, my other buddy who likes to talk trash wasn't shootin so well. Me and the other guy felt so confident that we backed it up straight from 30 to 40 and shot one arrow a piece. We both hit it first shot of course dead on, and our other buddy shot low. We gave him hell and backed it up to 50 hittin it on the first try, dead center, he missed again. Then to 60, hit it first try again dead center, he lost an arrow that shot. He was so frustrated, it was pretty funny. I love shootin bows with buddies, but I just don't have the time to do it enough to get excellent. I assume you're a bonified competition shooter?

I could stretch to 50 if the conditions were right, but I'm not likely to. too many things can go wrong at distances.
With the exception of kills on1 37 yd doeand 1 44 yd doe, all of my shots have been under 25 yds with a bow.

I love shooting long range. I practice out to 85 yards (all the room I have) and I love lobbing arrows like that. I wouldnt shoot a deer at half that distance though. Even you guys that dont have much time, just get a bigger backstop - you would be amazed how much your shooting will improve at closer ranges if you practice at 50+ yards even once a week.

Yes, I know where the vital is, yet the first arrow was a bit low but doing too much damage; the next 4 shots were to make up for the first poor shot. Yes, I should have pulled the bird in closer, which was my mistake and I practiced a ton since that day. I took another shot at 7 yards earlier in the season and missed a huge gobbler. Shot right threw the blind so even the easy shots can present problems. I learn from every experience and this site. For the record, I never said that I would take a deer or any animal at 100 yards, but it is fun to practice. I am only looking for advice.

Anybody who takes a 100 yard shot on a deer with a bow deserves to have their bowhunting privelages revoked IMO.
I don't care if you are literally the world's greatest archer. You're a moron if you do that and you woudn't be welcomed in our camp. It's that simple.
