my pins are set for 20 30 40
i thought about buying a five pin sight. The thing is i am not sure i would want to shoot a deer out much farther then 40 maybe 50 but not 70.

Same here, pins are 20, 30, 40 I'd take a shot on a calm deer out to 40yds with confidence, 50 is about max for me, I wouldn't go an inch past 60yds for any reason. I don't think I would shoot past 30yds at a turkey.

I will shoot as far as my ability and equipment and environmental conditionswill allow me. Right now my equipment is up to a 60+ yard shot but I am not. I haven't been practicing enough to feel confident at that distance right now.

I agree that archery is about getting close but to a point. I, as well as most people here, shoot a high tech compound bow that is perfectly capable of delivering an arrow with plenty enough energy and momentumto distances a lot farther thanI will ever be able to shoot. I understand and agree with thethought ofletting the animal getas close as possible and if they are comingI will let them come.

Having said that, I don't understand the point of hunting with a cutting edge compound bow with all the bells and whistles, laser range finder, all the latest in silencing equipment,etc...etc... and refusing to take a shot past 25 yardsif the bow and your personal ability are more than up to the task.If I wanted to only shoot at 25 yards and under I would take up traditional archery.

My longest kill was under 40 yards but look at this site where they talk about kills well over 60 yards. Those guys must be better than I am.
