So you guy can see not everyone thinks the same in NY
It's NY man you don't think we know that.

I've hunted this state for 30 years seen it go from 5 guys on a "party permit" (doe permit) to being able to take up to what is it now 7 deer?

Plenty of really nice bucks get killed around here every year. Don't see a need to mandate AR's.

The old days of arm bands and party permits..............couldn't even shoot a doe and saw plenty of them.........now I have enough tags to make a book and don't see half as many deer.

Yup............those biologists sure know what they are doin'
Atlas you should run the DEC All issues would be solved[:-]

I see and shoot plenty of them So I do not get your point, matter of fact your odds in NY are better than mine in MI
If we both hunted 2,000 acre family farms that would be true

So is it possible that there already are plenty of big mature bucks out there and the herd is way healthier then we know...............because we just don't see them remember??
Yes it would, to bad I only hunt 285 acres[:-] Facts are tough one for you tonight

Well you don't in the QDM zones I see them all the time, just wish they were closer

Yea then we can have the problems they do in many of the big buck states, outfitters buying up land and making it hard for an average guy to finda spot to hunt. We need hunting to become the sport ot the rich right?
Great point Charlie - and one I used last year when a private group already controlling 1000's of acres in 7j and 7h wanted to go mandatory AR in these wmu's - claimed we have the potential for deer similar to Pike County's rep..
I would ask hunters in these areas their thoughts on hunting access in these areas - common answer was "hard and getting harder every year".
I then asked them what they thoughtaccess would be like if the proposal went through, actually worked, and resulted in a rep like Pike Cty.
Not a hard question to answer - local hunters would lose most if not all access and the state land would be over run.

That is great Atlas, I really like there system. It allows guys to shoot what they want. I can tell you when you take that second tag out of some hunters hands their standards change on what is a good buck.
I have no desire to change anyone's standards. Your tag is your tag. Do with it what you want..........just don't complain about it afterwards. Nothing burns me up worse then some idiot saying he doesn't know what he will do if a monster walks out because he already filled his buck tag [:@]

You know I just don't want the goverment mandating more of my life. I'm happy doing what I'm doing. If I decide I want to stalk up on a small buck and shoot him off the ground well that's what I enjoy. You want to shoot a large racked deer walking under your tree stand fine. Just don't mandate how I'm supposed to hunt anymore then it already is.

Steve, great point. That's why I continuously raise the bar for myself.
For some people raising the bar is going totally primative making their ownbows and arrows etc and hunting out of natural blinds and shooting at only ten yards for them a spike could a real trophy.
Charlie, that is true. My bar hasn't reached that height yet, but I've got a lot of hunting left in me, so who knows what the future holds.

No less of a challenge, just more opportunity to meet that challenge.

100% correct, we also have the problem of people selling there land for development reasons. It is not worth enough for hunting. Damn if we do damn if we don't. That is a big one for MI. Now we have farmers putting AR's on leases so they can get more money.

Issues are only going to get worst, either way. Why I say get involed and help out.

Start a group called

Atlas I agree. I would just love to take the second tag out of the hands of MI hunters and see if THEIR standards changed on their own. Give the hunter the choice and see what happens.

BTW in MI the deer would be shot and tagged by his wife. But that is for another thread

True statement, so it is ok if I shoot him at his peak. He has been breeding for at least 2.5 years than most deer Talk about your contridictions[&:]
Killing a buck with supreme genetics in the prime of his life is nothing short of moronic if "herd health" is really your goal.

People who own and breed thoroughbred horses would tend to disagree
