My feet freeze
#41
I just want you guys to know that I think you are all sissies. (Except for Al)
I used to hunt and trap in temps down to -30 F in just gym shoes. Never could find a decent pair of gloves to fit so I just went without. Builds character.

Justin made me feel guilty for hunting in gym shoes so I bought a pair of 800 gram thinsulateLacrosse alpha burlys. Those puppies are warm. If it's really, really cold, I'll put in a hand warmer packin my boots. Gives my toes something to play with if nothing else.[8D]
Anyhow for you sweaty footed people, I've heard that applying an anti-perspirant to the bottoms of your tootsies will help keep them dry and hence, warmer.
It's worth a shot.

i thought at first, my feet must have been warm, NO THEY WERE NOT..
this is why i always asked to be put on drive, not watch.
i also ice fished all day, 10 hrs,6 days a week and my feet froze..i used to start a fire on ice too...
back then the only rubber boot made was BALL-BAN boot.
leather boots, no one wore them...
back then you could start a fire in woods, did that a lot to get your feet warm....
to this day my feet get COLD even when temps are above 30 ..
i use the LACROOSE alpha burlys 1500 grams....
i never saw anyone in 50 yrs use sneakers to ice fish, trap or hunt..
learn something everyday.[:-]

I have them, I haven’t tried them yet but going to sit in the stand tomorrow. I was told that the secret to them is you have to put them on right after you get to your stand or blind. If you wait until your feet get cold then the blood is now being shunted away from your feet so your body core temp doesn’t drop (natural response)
Also they are not for walking only sitting, I wish mine has the magnets instead of Velcro I think the new versions due but the hole that your boot fits into is smaller which I don’t understand.
Anyway I will report when I give them a try. They were 45.00 from my outfitter.

Anybody tried those Artic Shield slip-on boot covers?

I am going to try them again and make sure my feet are dry before I put them on. Man I was really hoping these would work. The temp was about 15 degrees this AM and got up to around 30 for the high.
I guess I may have to look for a different pair of boots since my Rockys are nearing 10 years of age and definitely show it.
I don’t have poor circulation but the veins in my feet are very superficial (close to the surface) and I think that is why I lose so much heat through my feet. Should I go La Cross or stay with the Rocky/Stalker type boot?

Iused the Arctic Shield boot covers for the last 2 seasons. It might sound strange but I'm stillnot sure what to think of them. When my feet are warm I tell myself that it's the boot covers doing it's job. Sometimes my feet get cold and think they aren't working. Basically I feel that they do work because my feet used to get coldalmost everytime I went hunting. Notnearly asmuch anymore.Last SaturdayI walked to my stand (At least 6" of snow in NY) and I guess I forgot to kick off the snow/freezing waterfrom the bottom of my Lacrosse rubber boots and put on the Arctic shields. My feet were frozen in a couple of hours. I have to say it was extremely cold that day. When I took off the boot covers There was ice inside them.No wonder my feet were freezing. I'm guessingthey must have to be dry to be effective.
I also use their hand muff which I like, but I have nothing to compare it to.

I guess I am partially satisfied with them but was expecting a little more. I will continue to use then and see how they hold up over time. At least I can sit for up to six hours in a stand with the temp being below freezing. I also noticed my feet do sweat so I will have to find something to take care of that also. I do carry extra boot warmers incase I need to slip them inside the A.S.’s as a last resort.

My feet get a little chilly still but it is tolerable, when I hang my feet over the stand (off the steal platform) they don’t feel as cold.

I have the same problem with my feet sweating. It doesn't matter how heavy my boots are. I've taken to putting hand warmers in my boots. I put my socks on then tape the handwarmer on top of my toes then put on my boots. They even sell toe warmers with tape on them already. I've tried them too and they work great. the instructions say to place them under your toes, but they don't work that way. Place them on top as they need air to work. Toes stay warm all day and the hand warmers are around $1 for a pack of two. Lots cheaper than new boots.
