I missed my first shot this year because I forgot what I was doing and closed my bow hand-my second archery season and my first shot on a deer...I crawled 80yrds on my belly down the edge of a wheat field to get to her, took me over 45min, then I get there and close my bow hand (improper shooting form) and fling my first shot off to the left, she didn't know what was going on, so I slowly nocked up another one, opened my hand, and punched her through both lungs and the heart...guess those off season tourney's helped a bit-35yrds by then second shot.

I missed a pile this year, most were due to not shutting the truck off and having a shaky rest to shoot from on running deer and some were at night! Then there were 2 I missed with the bow purdy tuff shots though!!! First was 80 yards in a stiff breeze missed 4 feet low and 1 foot behind him & the other was trying to thread the needle through the tickest hazel brush on a trophy bull elk. Let me not forget shooting 250 yards with my ML at Mulie Buck and trying to attempt the Texas lung shot on Buck fleeing from cover with loads of under brush. All in all I only wounded and never found a few, filled some tags and made the odd good desicion this fall...hey I know not perfect but I just get so darned pumped when I see animals I sometimes forget my mind. Maybe next year I will practice at least a week before season opens to get a better handle on things
.
Sounds pretty stupid but reality is we rarely hear the stories that lead up to the harvest. I for one know misses do and can happen, this year I missed 2 coyotes total (1 - bow and 1 -rifle) & last year I hit everything I aimed at(except the odd target...lol). The reason I have missed few in the past number of years is practice(loads of it), confidence and knowing my ablilities/limitations. It is one thing we can control in this sport and I stress the importance of getting out and practicing more to all (myself included). Know your abilities and limitations and stick to them, in time you will be more confident and your abilities will increase..so don't be let down you can't make that 40 yards shot with the bow or 250 yard shot with the rifle....Practice makes perfect(well better)!

Mow em down, Why are you shooting at a running deer when you KNOW that you and your buddy are using the wrong choke?

Back to the post, I missed two times this year. I past on a few bucks, and then I missed a big buck. I also missed a doe, it was not a good season for shooting this year. In 17 years this is the first time I have not killed a deer. I of corse had fun and we as a club had a great year and we left a bunch for next year.

I haven't missed this year but I have made a bad shot on one of the fallows that I harvested. I swear something must have happened that I didn't see. About a sixty yard shot broadside perfect rest on the gun both front and rear. Shot was stable not moving or shaking squeezed the trigger. Couldn't have had a more perfect condition, however that bullet still hit the deer in front of the rear quarter like the deer had turned around at the last minute (but it didn't) just a bad shot I guess. By the way the deer dropped like a sack of potatoes.

I was on a special hunt the next weekend. Sorry that I made it sound like the same hunt. I was on two draw hunts. I will try to make it a little more clear next time, but good job at seeing the inconsistency. I understand that I should not have taken the shot in thinking about it, but I did get pretty excited.
