OV: My rate was 50%. 2 out of 4 deer I took tested positive. I think certain areas are hot zones. I live about a mile from where the first case was discovered.

They are saying that " at this time" it is a very positive sign!!! Who knows what may pop up as we move forward. It is not a fun situation....I hope and pray that it comes to some sort of a head fairly soon and we can assume at least that it is contained!! Waaaaaayyyyyy too many " quality" deer to just wipe out!

After you kill the deer what do u do next to get it tested. I assume u dont just take the meat home without knowing if the deer has cwd or not or is the disease non threating to humans and only deer? i havent had the time to read up on cwd yet.

I' m not in Wisconsin, but here in Colorado you do take your deer/elk home with you. For CWD testing you cut the head off and they test it for you, after 4-8 weeks you get a letter in the mail letting you know one way or the other.

I hunt in a CWD unit here in Colorado and 2 1/2 years ago I had a elk test positve for CWD. Now if you think an deer testing positive is bad, just think about me boning an elk in the mountains, humping him out 3 miles to the road, in 5 trips over 2 days, then never even getting to taste his sweet flesh.
