Alo-howdy AK string,
There' s a good chance I' ll be in Sitka this Sept. (around 14-27). Looking for info on the deer hunting there and recommended guides. I might even go crazy with the checkbook and look into a hunt for Black bear (POW or elsewheres in SE). Any advice & info would be appreciated.

if you can get to the east side of the island for deer thats where I' d head. Unless we get some snow early in sept, the bucks are still going to be up high, atleast that is where I' d start looking.

As per guides, there is one Dan Williams. He is a bear guide, not sure if he can hook you up, if not he can point ya in the right direction. Tell him his lil bro from fairbanks sent ya (same name). If you cant get ahold of him, let me know. I have a couple buddys down their both hunting and fishing guides. They however both guide big game over in the dillingham area for moose/caribou. I' ll be their till early august this summer and if it comes to it being that late I' ll hunt around while I am their (june-july) and see what I can scrounge up.

should add, while you are their and if you have the time, dont pass up the halibut fishing!!! Not sure how the salmon runs will be other then the silvers peak in mid august. With this year being 2-3 weeks early we' ll see how it changes the run timing but I' d bet their is still a few fish to be had.

+10 bar none! We have had snow the past two years up their at that time a little more east of their. Something rated even colder maybe -10 might even be wise! That or get one of those polar fleece inserts. Its better to have and not need then to not have and need dearly! Espically in a harsh environment like the slope!

It can be very nice or spitting snow both within a day!

I prefer fleece and use my rain gear as a wind break when not moving. when moving it helps keep me ventalated, warm, and when wet drys fast. I prefer poly pro long undys as they are warm as heck. One catch is they hold scent bad! you can stink up pretty quick in them.

I also have some wooln' s I really like. Usually keep them for the october hunting though.

If you dont mind me asking what outfit are you going out with?

" you can stink up pretty quick in them"

Hey not all of us were the smelly kid in class.

Thats a good time to go, but weather is real unpredictable. Could be snowing or could be the worst expirence you have ever had with bugs. Best to be ready for both.
