Nimrod, congrats on all the fish and I' m glad to hear that the Widow course went well. The reason I' m asking about when you come back up north is that there are a couple of guys wanting to do the IBEP course. Do you have anything scheduled for later this year?

I' m back up north on the 23rd, then after that I' m off to Vegas. Glad I' m getting some good Alaskan experiences in this spring and summer. Black bear roasts for dinner tonight. [:-]
I' ll have pictures in a week or so.

junogrl, glad your getting your fill of 1 stitches bear meat now, it' ll be gone in a couple of days once he gets his hands on it. I' ll have about 30 pounds of hot links done by next monday. Just in time for our Chitna trip on the 17th.

I got to see seak in Anchorage when he came through. He got to pick fun at me for my messed up hip, come to find out it was dislocated. Got it popped back into place when I got back to Fairbanks and it' s been a little sore, but not holding me down like it was in Anchorage.

ABM-HI PAUL AND I JUST GOT BACK FROM THE SOUND SAW 3 BEARS. HUMMING BIRDS ( RED OR ORANGE COLOR), MEADOW VOLES, PINE MARTIN, SPRUCE HEN AND DALL PORPOISE. OH I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT A MILLION NO-SEEUMS. WE HAD A GREAT TWO DAYS EVEN IF NO BEARS WERE PUT IN THE FREEZER. WATER A LITTLE ROUGH LATE FRIDAY NIGHT WHEN WE WENT DOWN BUT VERY FLAT TODAY.
THE BOWFISHING DOWN SOUTH WAS A REAL KICK.

ABM--I' ve been very good...haven' t gotten into the bear meat, and actually took some up to Anchorage to SeAk for him to share with the kids! Not that it' s been easy mind you...but alas, I told him how many packages of polish dogs, so I think he' ll notice if they' re missing! Hey, if you get a chance to talk to him, ask about his catch and release program in Prudhoe.

Long time - no post! Had to check in to see if the Nim was killing any fish with his sticks and strings. Then I see he' s way to Hell and gone down in America! Traipsin' around and spending money in Cabelas and Basspro.

Guess I' m going to have to check my deodorant - SEAK is avoiding me! He comes to Juneau but no call for a coffee break, or maybe to sit in on one of my workshops on " How to Catch Fish" . LOL

Had a lot of fun at the beginning of the month when my son-in-law and oldest grandson came up from Oregon. Grandson Alex caught a couple of early bright chums and Freddie caught a nice King just before they went back south. I' m hoping Alex can come back up in august and help me catch a bunch of silvers to ship south for their freezer. The local Juneau salmon catching has been spotty - a few nice wild Kings headed up the Taku River, but nothing like what has been going on out in Sitka. The charter guys have had a great year so far for on both Kings and halibut!

Will check in later. Have a great Summer, and be safe.

Here is a picture, finally, of my black bear. She came out to be just over 5&1/2 foot dry sow with a 17" skull. Not as big as my bear last year, but a real nice hide, and the meat is out of this world! I shot her from 14 yards, she ran less than 15 yards at full speed, stopped, fell over dead and started moaning.
It was a pretty good hunt in all. We saw about 14 bears in two days, and I thought I was going home empty when she came in at last light and I decided to take her. The ground shrinkage was a little more than I had expected, but I can' t complain. She had fat on her hind quarters and back strap that was 2" thick. Quite the healthy bear.

We' ve had a lot more going on that has kept me from the boards. My wifes Aunt passed away in Ghana, Africa two weeks ago and that has consumed most of my time. Tammy was very close to her aunt, and she got most of her inspiration from her. We had a service for her in Fairbanks on the 19th. She was working for the international missionary board as a doctor in Africa and was killed in a car accident. She had previously worked for the hospital in Kotzebue for 13 years, acting as the department head for 11 years. There were a couple hundred people at the service including several from Kotzebue and outlying areas like Selewik since she had become such a big part of their families over the years.

I did manage to sneak away to Chitna and did pretty good. I caught 50 reds in a day and a half, 10 below my limit. I almost had in 2 kings, but they managed to get out at the last second, one was an absolute hawg. I could of had my limit if I would of stuck it out longer, but I had to get home in time for the services for Tammys aunt.

Back up to work now for 2&1/2 weeks. I have my bow, license and caribou tags. Season opens up in one week!

How much stretching did those two do with the tape?

I used the " size 12 boot = 1 foot" method of measuring, so I might be a bit off, she could be a tad bigger. The girl at fish and game didn' t seem like she was being very accurate with her measurements when she was sealing the hide and skull however. She' s a good eating sow though, I had about 150 hot links made along with the roasts and stew meat that I cut up. Sorry about the size of the photo, I' ll try to enlarge it so you can get a good view of the nose hairs. I acutally cut the size in half from the fujifilm cd that I had made with the photos. I got tired of messing around with it and just posted it. [&:]

I' m up here until the 10th, then in Fairbanks till the end of the day on the 14th, and at 8:30am on the 15th I will be in Vegas. I' m looking forward to getting there now after moving out of our house in Fairbanks and living with family. It gets pretty dang expensive to move though, we' re figuring that out real quick!

Well, I should be out caribou hunting in about 168 hours. Have a fun time off, are you going to be pike hunting?
