RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Back from the dead... May has been a hell of a month... unfortunately, didn't have any time to chase turkeys aside from the opener week... From my appendix gettin' ripped out - my grandmother had an anyrizm operated on, my wife caught a bug and promptly passed it on to me. Got back in time to pack up for the weekend camp trip, got back to clean up the mess my son made now that he has the bug... Hopefully things will start to get back to normal.
Anyone know of any good public land to hunt snow geese? Somewhere in Skagit? http://www.geocities.com/wanwtf |

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
The Grouse were thick, also saw a few chicks, so they weather must be cooperating with them. It is time to start getting ready, course I need to replace the stock on the 12 ga since it cracked last year.
Going to go synthetic, account all this moisture out here!!!! Invecto, going to be in the tri-cities the 30th, have a meeting to attend with some BNSF employees. Should be a good time. WE also saw a lot of fawn tracks last weekend, Man I have the fever bad. I reall am ready for the elk again, after we split that 5x5 6 ways, I didn't have a lot left. I built a small cart to pull behind my bicycle, and finally finished with some adjustments. It will be a great tool, and we are going to harvest more than one, now that I know how to hunt these WA Bulls. I can't believe they sit in the clearcuts all day. The bull I killed, was sitting in a clearcut between two down trees and lots of dead small trees standing. When he went down, I thought I missed. They are pretty smart, he wasnt far from the edge of the timber, but he wasn't fast enough to get away from the 30-06. Well some of this is probably repeat but I am getting excited, cause it will be here before we know it and I am ready, ready , ready. Hope all is well and talk to ya soon. BRian |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
YOU GUYS ARE SO LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO HUNT THIS FALL, BUT GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL, I'LL JUST BE HUNTING BIRDS THIS FALL, STILL LOOKING FOR A GOOD DOG, BUT THEY WANT TO MUCH MONEY FOR THEM OVER HERE.

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
I forgot to mention that we found a cat scrape or his scratching post. This huge cedar tree has been scratched from about 5 ft high all the way to the ground on one side. This is the same private land we hunt. We have seen sign in this area but have yet to see a cat. I did find a taxidermist who will do a full bear mount for $800.00 and a cougar about the same. Maybe this will be the year!!!
BRian |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE GETTING A GOOD DEAL ON THE MOUNTS BEST OF LUCK GETTING A BEAR AND A COUGAR

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
My friend and I took some duck to have mounted, and he must have had 8 african game heads, some deer and other birds. He is really good and does it out of his shop/garage so he can keep the cost down. Had a big Northern mallard done in flight he charges 100.00 I called around the city, and it was at least 185 to 200 to have it done. That prperty where we found the scratch is the same one I had those bear come out on me. I would like to have a standing bear right by the front door.
BRian |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Gator.....Ya know what he charge's for a flying turkey mount..??....Think our local taxidermist is around $250.00
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Hey Wayne, I will call him and ask. Haven't hunted turkey out here so I guess I never asked. Also he lives in Centralia so that might make the difference even though he is cheaper. I will let you know
BRian |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
What are the going rates for flying turkey mounts... are the more or less than a full strut? My father got a nice one this year with a bunch of beards - looking to get it mounted.

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Hey Wayne, did you get the pics I sent you of the birds we took over your way. I didn't get a notice that they didn't go through this time, but you never know with my e-mail.
Hope everyone is doing well. The wife just left this morning for Combat Casualty Care Course(C4) in San Antonio. She's not much of the "roughing it" type, and they will be in the field for 5 or 6 days, sleeping in tents, hikes, no showers, using latrines, etc. Damn, I almost wish I could be there except for the enlistment part. She'll be gone 'til next weekend, but I talked my parents into coming out to help with the kids and visit for the week. It's always good to have back-up with 3 little ones. I may talk my dad into going with me and the 3 and 5 year old on a fishing trip. You need LOTS of back-up for that. So if anybody has any good spots to take little ones fishing in the Tacoma/Olympia area without having to pay to fish a farm pond, I'm all ears. Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em! |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
AFTERNOON ALL, HOPE ALL IS WELL IN WASHINGTON. THE WEATHER HERE TODAY WAYNE HASN'T BEN TO BAD, SUNS BEEN OUT AND THERE IS A LITTLE BREEZE. HAVEN'T BEEN UP TO MUCH TODAY, BOUGHT A NEW CAR YESTERDAY, 2002 FORD ESCAPE, ITSTHE WIFE'S CAR, OR SO I AM TOLD!!! HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD WEEKEND!!!!

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
How is every one doing today??? The weather on the west side hasn't been too bad lately, but I was in the tri-cities yesterday and there were a lot of people out fishing and boating, must be nice!
Wayne, havent been able to get ahold of the taxidermist yet, but will let you know as soon as I find out. Slee, haven't done a lot of fishing around Tacoma area, but heard Harts lake is pretty good for kids. I usually fish Riffe or Mayfield. Problem with Riffe, last time I was down there, it was real low and a lot of mud. There is some trout and catfish out at Ft. Lewis, but you have to register to hunt and fish out there. There is a small pond on area 15 that is kid friendly. Other than that, just waiting for bear season to start! Nascar, still haven't been out looking for new places, but should have a chance next week, I will let you know. Well everyone have a good weekend and take it easy. Later BRian |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Wayne, that bird was taken just about 100 yards above the power line. We stopped on the way back to camp to take a scenic picture along the creek. Yeah he was that rugged looking when you stopped by. He must've been in the shade at camp or something.
Thanks for the info Gator99. I hunt Ft. Lewis for deer, so I'm already registered with the Adventure Center and I would be ok to fish. It also pays to be an Active Duty Dependent. I can go anywhere on post I want, as long as it isn't restricted. I've heard Spanaway Lake is pretty good to fish from the dock too, but I've never been there before. I'll figure something out between now and next week. Hope y'all have a good weekend. Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em! |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Hi Wayne ! Glad to hear the bucks are out there ! How far from the house did you see that buck in the lower field? - - - I've been stuck in the big city for the last few weeks so its nice to hear that the critters are out there in the woods doing their thing. The concrete jungle is driving me crazy lately! Hope you all are doing great. Good Hunting!, - - Rob :)

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Well, I found out that the # I had for the taxidermist was the wrong one. So I called the Processor that gave me the name and his # shows disconnected. So I will be heading down south again to do some scouting and will stop by his house to see if he is still around. I hope so, cause the bear is looking real promising this year.
Nascar, will be sending an e-mail by Wed, went out there and he wasn't home. Did anyone hunt Ft. Lewis for deer??? I heard there was a nice one taken out of there last season. I did see a nice buck in 11 but tried to get in on the second season and it was full. Ran into a guy at a gas stop and he had my buck in the back of his truck. Just my luck. The one that was taken was a 5x6 or a 6x7 not to sure, was wondering if anyone knows. 22 pages and gaining. Later BRian |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
AFTERNOON ALL, HOPE AL IS WELL, YESTERDAY WAS ONE OF THE HOTTEST DAYS SO FAR THIS YEAR, IT GOT ABOVE 80 AT MY HOUSE. GOT A NICE SUNBURN ON MY NECK AND FACE FROM WORKING OUT IN THE YARD ALL DAY. RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
gator99 ...Hope your right about the bear this year. We had some hard rain's, and hail up untill last week....am worried that maybe it got some of the berry blossom's. Last year was so dry that the berries did'nt fare well, and did'nt see hardly and bear sign where we generaly go. Crossing my finger's for this season.....or maybe I'll just have to shoot onme out of the garden were I've taken most of mine.........do they consider that baiting..???.....lol......Wayne

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Hey Robb....the way I got it figured....this post ought to take us to page 23... :))))))..... How the wife's new car running......sound's like ya need to start putting on some #75 sunscreen protection when ya go outdoor's.....are you a red head..??....my wife is and she burn's fast...........Wayne

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
and this post ought to give me back my Spike rateing again......for the 3rd time..
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Robb92 I'm glad to hear you're a redneck too.
Gator99, I spent alot of time in area 10 last bowseason. I didn't see anything. I am very disappointed with what I've seen on Ft. Lewis so far, which is nothing until after dark on the drive out. I hear all of these stories of monster blacktails on there, but I haven't even had a shot at a doe. Maybe I'm just hunting the wrong spots, but I've found tons of sign around the marshes in area 10. Maybe I need to give up and cross the road into area 11. Wayne, I don't think it's baiting if it occurs by natural agricultural means. That is the definition back in Mississippi. Who knows how they determine it out here. Better contact the enforcement office to be sure. Or just don't ask, and don't tell. Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em! |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Hi Wayne - - Wow that buck was close! Did he have a nice rack on him? - - - Yeah, I've gotta get back east. It's looking gray and damp over here on the coast and this Hawaiian needs some sunshine ! :) - - The family has been planning on a little fishing/camping trip this summer (probably to Lake Curlew) We'll make sure to call and stop by to say "Howdy". Good Hunting!, - - Rob

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Hey Wayne, I think of it more as protecting your harvest. The way the bear population is growing out here, I wouldn't be surprised if they open it up year round.. I read an article last year there was an estimated 30,000 bear in the state of Wash. Most living on the West side. and with all these blackberries, I believe it!!
Hey Slee is 10 Johnson's Marsh. I have seen a lot of deer in one area, usually driving out to waterfowl hunt. And it is usually raining. My first time hunting these blacktail was in good weather. We hunted 4 nice days on private property and saw two does the whole time. (and we have three different properties over 800 acreas. Went back second season when it was raining, and saw 25 deer only two bucks but only hunted 6 hrs. I killed my first blacktail that year. These blacktail have so much cover over here, they can get away with coming out at night, when it is safe. But throw in the rain and they have to move out into the open. So opening weekend, I wont hunt unless it is raining or I am going to hunt where there is a lots of pressure. This year, I contemplated going back to archery, but am going to hold off maybe till next year. I want another elk, and now that I found the place and figured out how to hunt them in Wash, I believe I will harvest another this year. Anyway, The rain is back today and I will be in the garage building another cart for my friends bicycle. Take it easy all and talk too you soon. BRian |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
YEP ON PAGE 23 AND CONGRATS ON SPIKE FOR THE 3RD TIME, HOPEFULLY THEY'LL GET THINGS STRAIT FOR A WHILE. THE WIFES OLD CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP AND WAITING TO GET REPAIRED AND THEN WE CAN SELL IT. YEAH I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT IS GOT THAT HOT HERE, TODAY HASN'T BEEN AS HOT BUT IT IS MUGGY OUTSIDE.

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
slee ...If that bear's munchin on the brocilli, and the brussel sprout's...I'll let em walk.....but once they get close to the mellon's and corn....their butt's in the freezer...
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Pointshoot777....Ya know there's some good Tiger Musky in Lake Curlew. Believe they have to be 32 or 36 inche's to keep....but they planted em there about 5-6 year's ago, so most of em ought to be kept in the fish box.. :). Let us know when your going and we might meet ya up there and get a line wet ourselve's.....Diane's been buggin me for a couple of year's now to take her fishin.....guess I'm gonna have to break down and oblige her just so there's no trouble in Paradise....lol

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Hey slee,
Took the dogs out to the Ft and saw two does and a buck on one area and saw three does on another. It is looking good out there this year. I was on my way out duck hunting between the seasons last year when I saw that other buck. He was a 3x4. I am heading down to the elk property this weekend if I don't have to work to do a little looking around. They are doing some more clearcutting down there and it should open up some nice areas. Guy that owns the property where I deer hunt said the cat was in his yard last night. Dog was going crazy at the door, so he turned him loose. It's a wolf/Huskie mix. said the dog tore out the door and chased the cat into the woods. He wants me to come down as soon as the season opens up to call it in. I am looking forward to taking him to the taxidermist. Nascar, went out there again today and he still isn't home. I have his name somewhere, gotta find it so I don't have to drive out there every chance I get. BRian |
