Ya'all are not gonna believe this.... If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I'd think someone would be ready for an oversized white coat. On my way into work this morning (I work in Everett), I drive down marine view drive. For those of you who don't know Everett, this is down town, right on the water. Down town meaning their ain't no woods - just houses and businesses. There, walking down the sidewalk, was a dog gone honest to God WILD TURKEY! The only thing that could have made that sight any better would have been if it were a tom. I can't for the life of me figure out how the thing got there. I know we released some in Snohomish, but it was way on the other side of I-5... Made my day brighter anyhow

That is odd. I saw some feral turkeys in Uganda a couple of years ago, they looked like domesticated turkeys but had obviously gone wild.

This was no domestic bird that went wild. If it were, someone ought to be arrested because they are raising easterns! Wonder if WDFW could help on this.

Sorry about that... one of the hazards of tryin' to get something for nothing. I had to rely on someone else's stuff in order to build a database... (which hopefully will change as I submitted a request to the State NWTF for a measley coupe hundred a year to have it hosted by itself, without all those annoying adds). If you want to be included on the mailing list, you can e-mail me at [email protected] or [email protected] -

I actually use the service strictly for the database right now. I've created my own template for the actual email so I don't have those stupid banners... And I have a backup of the list elswhere that I actually use to send out the letter.

Sorry about the hassle.

Hello again, Just wanted to say hi.

See some new users on here----Welcome!!!

Anyway, not much new since the trip scouting. They clearcut a lot of the area we hunted, but still saw the bulls and bucks. Alot of does and 1 cow.

The clearcutting is going to push them into different areas this year, but I am looking forward to harvesting an elk and deer.

Nascar, wondering if you had anymore info on Ft Lewis, still no luck with the Dairy, been busy.

Anyway, take care all and talk to ya later

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

I can feel your pain WANWTF. I spent about 2 hours this afternoon at Madigan Army Hospital. We were headed out to Ft. Lewis to take the kids to a little carnival they were having on post. Well on the way there, my wife gets paged to the ER(she was on call today). Me and the 3 little ones went to the cafeteria to eat a bite and wait for Mommy to finish seeing her patient. The kids finished eating and still no Mommy, so I took them to her office to watch TV and let the kids run around while until she finished up. After another hour or so, she comes in and still wants to take the kids to the carnival. Hell, I'd had my own carnival for the past 2 hours. But being the great dad that I am, we went anyway. We stayed all of 30 minutes. Let's see...2 hours of waiting for 30 minutes at a little rooty-poot carnival. I guess the important thing is the kids had a good time. I did get to watch most of the Texas v. Rice baseball game on ESPN, so all was not lost. I'm not a fan of either team, but it was a great game.

I'm supposed to get tomorrow afternoon to myself to do whatever I want, ALONE! I think I'm gonna go fling a few arrows and maybe even get a hook wet. Y'all have a good weekend, and Happy Father's Day to you dads.

26 pages!!! WOW!

Everyone on here has been busy, and it's great to see some new names on here too!

Not much new here, got a GPS for fathers day and trying to figure it all out. These gadgets are impressive. Anyone have the Garmin 12. I would be interested in hearing problems or how good they are in the field. Not too worried about getting lost, but it improves your hunting when you are in a new area, I think.

Been watching some videos to kill time before the seasons. Also working on a new cart to pull behind bicycle.

Haven't been able to get ahold of the taxidermist, but he is still in business.

Nascar, found out the guy who owns the dairy was out of town for a month, so I will go out there soon. Will let you know. Also found a new spot, but not sure how good it is. Will have to check it out when the season starts.

Other than that, Hope everyone had a great Father's Day and keep the pages rolling!

Morning all. Hope everyone had a good Father's Day. I slept in, went shopping with the wife, stopped in a few car dealerships looking for a minivan(how appropriate on Father's Day), then spent about
2 hours shooting my bows on Ft. Lewis. When I finished shooting at the Skeet Range on their little archery target, they had locked the gate to get back into post. I had to ride training roads to get out of there. Man, you talk about being scared. I didn't have my map with me, and I didn't know where I was headed or how to get back over to the East Gate. Made it out no problem though. It was nice to get out and have some time to myself playing with my toys. I'll have to start getting out to scout next month. Y'all have a good day.

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

gator99- I have a Garmin GPS 12 and have used it for a couple seasons. It is a great unit and can pick up the satelite signals very quickly even in fairly heavy timber. Good battery life also. The worst thing about it is that it has so many options that it may take a while for you to get used to it. Take it out and just play with it this summer. Mark waypoints, routes and try to rename them and finally erase them. I think that the eTrex is a more user friendly unit but the GPS 12 is much more powerful. The more you use it the more comfortable you will be. I just use mine for marking camp or other key areas and don't really bother with the other 90% of options. Remember your compass...

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

It is now Tuesday, and my computer system is crashed hard... The root disk failed making my week since Saturday miserable. HP is suppose to have the parts up today, but the recovery is going to be a nightmare. Oh well... Moose Eyes - I plan on leaving for the 7:00 meeting and heading down... and afterwards be right back here trying to catch up so people can get paid Friday This e-mail I received kind of sums up how I feel about computers -

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quotequote:
Bill Gates vs. GM

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives:

At a recent computer exposition (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated:

"If General Motors had kept up with the technology like the computer
industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, GM issued a press release stating:

If General Motors had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

1- For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

2- Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3- Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason, you would simply accept this.

4- Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5- MacIntosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive -- but would run on only 5% of the roads.

6- The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "General Protection Fault" warning light.

7- The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.

8- Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9- Every time GM introduced a new car, car buyers would have to learn to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10- You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

Thanks Moose,

My hunting partner has the Magellan 315 and we have been comparing the two. It seems that the Magellan picks up more Satellites under dense cover. Have definately been taking it everywhere I go just to see how it does. It seems like a nice tool to have when out hunting new areas, so I can consentrate on the hunting and not worry about landmarks and direction.

Slee, I know what you mean about Ft Lewis. Been turned around there a few times myself. But I always ran into a freindly face to show me the way.

Another reminder about the special permits, 23rd is the last day. Wouldn't want to see anyone miss out or loose the points they have already.

Everyone take it easy!

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

I have the eTrex Camo unit, and my buddy has a GPS12. Several times now we have put them head to head, and they match up about the same. They both seem to lock on satellites about the same. When you get in cover(and not always thick), you will lose your lock off and on. It seems that if your view is obstructed to the satellites and lasts for an extended period of time, it will ask you if you are indoors. Sometimes it is annoying that you lose your satellite lock in such light tree cover, but all in all I like my eTrex.

My buddy doesn't know what half of the features are on his GPS12, and I know most if not all of my eTrex's features. I really like the Sunrise/Sunset and Hunt/Fish Tables on my eTrex Camo. No more having to worry about exact sunset times. It adjusts to your location, so it is as accurate as possible. Nothing like milking the last seconds of legal daylight.

Anyway Moose Eyes, if you are wanting the basic features that are easy to operate, look at the basic eTrex or eTrex Camo. If you want a few more bells and whistles, look some of the other higher priced models. My buddy loves his GPS12, but the damn thing just confuses me. Never forget to take the compass though because batteries will fail. The eTrex has awesome battery life though. I am still on the same batteries that I put in before my turkey trip. And I used it a bunch over there marking roost sites, comparing spots with the map, etc. I give the eTrex Camo 2 thumbs up.

Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em!
