RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Hope it goes well for ya slee. I have been seeing more lonesome hen's. Ya missed a great day for hunting today...a cool 33.....was so windy...the snow was blowing sideway's.
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Slee - - all the best with your hunt this week. (Don't know where you saw that weather looks great though. U of W weather dept says "Unseasonably Cool" through the weekend with possible snow at higher altitudes. But you know how weather forecasting is in the PacNW; wait a couple hours and it'll change.) Good Hunting!, - - Pointshoot

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Thanks. I've been watching the Weather Channel's website like a hawk. They are calling for temps in the mid 60s except for Saturday's high of only 56. The lows will be in the mid-upper 30s. Scattered showers will be moving through on Thursday and Saturday. I know this will definitely change with altitude, but this forecast has hung in for 2 days now. I just don't want high winds. I can deal with cool temps and even rain, but you can't hear them and they can't hear you if it's too windy.
Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em! |

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Man I can't hunt in that white stuff. I might get cold. Hey Wayne, can you shoot me an e-mail with your phone #. I'd like to give you a ring sometime while I'm over there. Maybe I can talk you into stopping by our camp Saturday evening for a steak and a cold one. And the offer is still out for calling one in for you. Just say the word.

|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Hey Robb - Are you able to hunt in England at all? I know it was cost a pretty penny in Japan, but it was possible - They have the most beautiful pheasants over there... I imagine there would be some neat hunting in England if it is possible.
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
yeah but for deer its a pretty penny, unless you talk to a framer and they might let you hunt their land. i plan on pheasant hunting this fall, when the season opens, got a lot of nice farm land right out my back door. and i know the farmer so it should be a done deal, fingers crossed.

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Hey Robb....Is there not much public hunting land there..?<font color=red></font id=red><font face='Tahoma'></font id='Tahoma'><font face='Georgia'></font id='Georgia'>

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Well fellas, I'm checking out of here until next Monday night. Everybody have a great weekend and make sure your Mommas know you love 'em this weekend. My momma will get her call on Saturday from the gas station in Kettle Falls. I'll give up all the grueling details when I return. Wayne I plan on buzzing you on Saturday. Kettle Falls here I come, and I'm bringing a bunch of redneck buddies with me. Y'all be good, or be good at it.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em! |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
YES AND NO, THEY HAVE PARKS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, BUT NO HUNTING ON THEM, THEY SAY THE BEST WAY IS TO TALK TO A FARMER AND SEE IF HE OR SHE WILL LET YOU HUNT THEIR LAND
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
slee - you're gonna call in a turkey for Wayne? - - - Trust me, he doesn't need the help. (Wayne doesn't even take a gun out anymore, just enjoys calling in birds when out with other hunters.) Good Hunting!, - - Pointshoot
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Robb92 - Sorry to hear you lost an old friend.
Pointshoot777 - You know, the more I get bummed about a bad turkey hunt the more I want to do it again ... only right next time! One of these days I will learn enough from all of my bad trips that I just might start bagging a bird or two. I have Monday off so I might run down to Klickitat county to do a little scouting/hunting. I need to find some places that consistently hold birds. Colville is a little too far to make a lot of trips over there. |

Sunday being Mother's Day.....spent it with the wife and my Mom..... Guess this'll make 4 year's in a row making Tag soup... :(. On my way over to rebublic this morning...I stopped by slee's camp, got there just in time to watch him pack up....he looked tired.. :)
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Thanks for the encouragement, Wayne.
Pointshoot777 - You are right. Any day spent hunting is a good one. I just got back from Klickitat. Left my house last night around 8:45 and arrived near Glenwood around 1 AM. Tried to sleep in the truck until 4:45 and then started hiking in. About 6:30 this morning I was walking down an old road when I spotted a doe about 80 yards in front of me in the road. She was looking up the hill so I glassed in the direction she was looking and saw two yearlings. She scurried up the hill to meet them and scoot them off. When I glanced back down the road I saw movement and assumed it was a fourth deer. I soon realized it was too small for a deer. It was a hen not 10 feet from where the doe was first standing. It must have been right there "grazing" right along side the doe. I have never seen deer and turkeys together before - only in pictures. I thought it was pretty cool. Ended up seeing two turkeys, 13 deer and 4 elk. It was a long drive, and I am pretty tired right now, but I would call it a good trip. I am done for the year though. For those of you that got turkeys please post pictures so we can see them. |

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
I survived the hunt, and am safely at home looking forward to falling into the bed. My group of 4 managed to bag 2 toms. Not bad, but should have been at least 3 out of 4. The weather was absolutely perfect, but the birds weren't exactly cooperative. I guess I don't have anything to complain about. We were on toms every morning and evening. I got within 100 yards of the tom my buddy took this morning yesterday morning 3 different times, but he wasn't interested in anything I had to say. Let me just say Run'N'Gun hunting in that terrain has me whooped. We roosted him last night, set up on him at 4:30 this morning, and were back at camp by 6:00am with him in the truck with us. Short and sweet.
We started the first morning off great. One of my buddies and I were on 2 hot toms at 5:00am. We closed to within 200 yards and set up because it was really open. I gave 'em every call I had, and some of the best cutting and cackling I think I've ever done. I threw the old slapping the hat on the leg for added effects. 5 minutes later and he was on a rope coming into the set-up. At 25 yards, he stops in the old skidder road, and struts and spit-n-drums for us for a few minutes. He is only 35 yards from my buddy. I have to wait for him to come from behind a small sappling. He doesn't, and starts to get antsy when the hen doesn't come to him. That's when my buddy pops him. Man that was an awesome way to start the hunt. I put in lots of legwork, but had a great time. Wayne and Wash have hunted the area I was in. It gets STEEEEEEP in places, and that's where I seemed to stay most of the trip. Wayne, I'm glad you stopped by this morning so I could finally meet you. And yes I was/am worn slap out, so I'm sorry I wasn't my normal cheery self. I sincerely hope I wasn't rude. Next time I promise I'll be in better spirits and more social. I've never hunted that hard for any critter. Several days of 3-4 hours of sleep and lots of miles can do that to you. We are all planning to come back next spring, and you are invited for dinner whichever evening you can get free. Me and the other fellas would like it if we could get together with you for a hunt next year. Keep it in mind. I'm glad to be home, but I hate that my season is coming to a close again without filling my tag. Those are the breaks though. I'd still consider my season a success. My buddy bagged a bird that I put in his lap, and I spent some time outdoors watching mother nature at her finest. I'll get 'em next year. Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em! |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Welcome back Slee - good to hear you had a good hunt.
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Slee glad to hear you had a good time, have you hunted that area before????Yup it can get pretty vertical in places. Think that keeps some guys out.Did you happen to find any sheds in your wanderings???It took me awhile to put 2 and 2 together, but your last post over on bowsite put it together for me, do you hunt out of Freds camp over in the tash???
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
OPPS sorry Yendors camp, not freds
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
GOOD TO HEAR SOME PEOPLE HAD A GOOD WEEKEND, SORRY TO HEAR YOUR TAGS WEREN'T FILLED, HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR!! NOT MUCH GOING ON HERE, SAW 6 ROOSTERS AND 5 HENS TODAY, NOT TO BAD, USUALLY SEE MORE BUT ITS REALLY WINDY HEAR. AT LEAST NO RAIN TODAY
|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
No Wash, I've never met Yendor. I didn't find any sheds, which was very surprising. I walked every draw and hillside above and below the powerlines, and I didn't find much in the way of turkey sign either. I did see a little muley with forked horns in velvet though.
Evidently the terrain didn't keep that many hunters out because we found where 3 birds had been cleaned in our camp. It just goes to show that you can take pressured birds if you have patience and are persistent. Experience also helps, and our camp had a bunch of it. I think we had about 50 years between the 4 of us. It was nice to know that I could still call 'em in though. It has been a while since I've had one within easy kill range. But as always, something goes wrong. He just had to start strutting behind the only sapling between me and him. I'm glad my friend got him though. He had the least experience of all of us, and sometimes is less than confident in his turkey skills. I'll take a few months to replay the memories, then it's time to plan next year's hunt and make some new ones. Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em! |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
slee ....Was Great to be able to meet ya....and no...you were'nt "Rude"....lol....Knew you were tired and wanting to get home. I'll look forward to visiting your camp again next year. Enjoyed meeting your Friend's also.. :)....Glad ya made it home safe

|
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
I'm more inclined to just BS. I've got the most experience at that anyway. If that was a sport, I'd definitely be a pro. Besides, that's all we ever do anyway. Why should we change a good thing?<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
