You said it Wayne! Mark my words, I WILL NEVER HUNT MODERN FIREARM DEER OR ELK SEASONS IN THIS STATE! I really feel like I stepped out there by putting aside the bow and picking up the muzzleloader this year. I don' t know how people don' t get killed every year in this state. I have heard some stories that make me scared to go in the woods for anything while a modern season is going on. 800 yard lob shots? Come on, how is that hunting. Between that and the guys who ride in the back of rigs with their guns and a cooler of beer just waiting for something to stick its head out, I don' t see how several guys aren' t killed every season. They are destroying any positive spin you can put on hunting in this state, and all of the animal rights groups are storing it up for later use. I realize a lot of the stuff that happens and ways people hunt go back to the days when hunter numbers were considerably lower and animals were more plentiful in some areas, but it has never been a low enough human population to justify some of the dangerous behavior that happens now. A lot of those " hunters" (used extremely loosely) need to stay in camp and leave the guns at home. We' d all be better off if they traded their Winchesters for a Kodak.[:@]

Gator, It' s sad , but all too common in Western WA for modern[:@] Have you ever hunted the Vail treee farm for Deer? When the word gets out about the Elk every swingin' ---- is out there" Hunting" by lobbing lead from as far as possible.

A guy I used to work with had a 5 point taken from him at gun point. He took license plate numbers and reported them to the officals. Come to find out the man actually pointing the gun on him was an Tumwater cop[:@][:@][:@][:@].

I don' t understand the logic or lack thereof these IDIOTS use. Who here would get any satisfaction out of stealing an animal or fish at gun point? What kind of yarn do you spin to tell the tale of the Big one you tagged?

I am so ashamed to be lumped in with the Modern rifle group that I' m thinking of going Muzzy. But then again so are half the Numbnuts too[:@][:@]

Sure wish they would just go to Safeways , grab dinner, and lounge on the couch, and watch tha Huskies coug it again[:@][]

About four years ago, I sold my Ruger 300 Win Mag because of this exact thing and bought myself a .54 cal Hawken. I don' t regret it. I did not want to be associated with modern rifle " hunters" anymore. There are some modern rifle hunters who are ethical, conscientious, and safe outdoorsman, but its all the other idiots that give modern rifle hunters a bad name.

The[>:] gun control people[X(] would love to read this stuff!
It does really suck that this kind of sh#t goes on . Did you happen to notice if the people in that camp spoke english???
I have been MR elk hunting all my life, and yes, occasionally you run into idiots like this, but in recent years I have noticed that since here in Wa. we have now so MANY hispanics (legal or no) out in the field these days- there are many more STUPID [X(]things going on out there!!!!!!!!!!!!! From driving on (well posted) closed roads, to running in between hunters and animals to get a shot, to lobbing bullets great distances, to whatever you could imagine!!!!!!!!!!![][:@]
Now I realize that " Stupid people" come in all races and ethnic groups, but this is the trend I' ve seen on the Colockum game range- Probably because of it' close proximity to the apple orchards in the Wenatchee area mostly.
Also, the Wenatchee World reported in early October that there is amajor " poaching" problem in this area, saying that it is a problem since there are too many ways in, and out. Problem is mostly on the Wenatchee side, hmmmmm?
As for safety and MR, maybe they should go back to the " Split Opener" they used to have- Early opener Saturday with no chance for special permits-Late opener Monday to be eligible for SP drawings. Being that they seem to care only about revenue (as evidanced by the heavy logging in this area), that is probably not likely to happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah guys.... It' s APPLE CUP week... WHere' s all the ' trash talkin' and predictions???????

Thanks everyone, I am glad I am not the only one that feels it is getting out of control. The one thing I did leave out was the road hunters who would pull up to the clear cut I was hunting and just stop. Motor Idling, and looking right at me.
It is amazing how lazy hunters are getting, waiting for me to walk into the woods and chase the elk right to them. It seems to work for them, but not my idea of hunting. If I killed an elk on the side of the road, and not have stepped more than 10 feet from the vehicle, I would quit hunting altogether. I didn' t kill an elk this year, but I have the satifaction of knowing I hunted hard. Riding a bike or walking in, makes it more enjoyabe to me. We walked 8 miles plus a day and beat the brush up and down the hills, in and out of trees. To me that is hunting.
If a guy has some sort of disability, I can understand hunting from a rig or on a road. But the laziness just makes me want to puke!!!!
If I offend anyone, too bad, Cause I am still fuming from the circus I observed out there. I am still in the process of looking hard for private land and have a couple tree farm owners that I am working on. Property has never been hunted. Probably bcause of the things I am venting about, but I am going to do my best to show them there are some responsible hnters out there. Anyway, there are a lot of other things that I didnt mention, like someone pointing their rifle at me to see if I was their buddy---Next time I just might point back. Use common sense out there Please!!!!!

The whole road hunting thing amazed me when I first hunted here. I don't get how someone can spot a buck on the side of the hill a mile away, and then expect to chase it down.

There is one guy I see every year who sets up his rifle on a shooting bench with a spotting scope and glasses the hill from morning to evening - Too crazy for me to think about.

I'm switching to bow in 04 - not because I don't care for the crazies (actually the hunter numbers have been going down for some reason where I hunt) but because I miss bow hunting so much (I hate this chose your weapon crud WA has).

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Hey all long time no post!!! Been busy here with getting readu to cme back stateside. can't wait, we leave here the 11th of jan. I'll be up in Washington sometime in the near future for 65 days at Boeing field learning on the 757s they have up there. Hope all is well, been doing a lot of shooting over here, so far this season I've shot over 50 roosters, 30+ hens, and the list goes on, I went out on my first fox hunt a couple of months ago, that was pretty cool, we saw several but only 2 would commit to the calls, and I took them both out with single shots, from a 223. well I hope that your season went good!! I'll be checking in later

Sorry since it's been so long everyone.
Slee, the next time we're running around together I'm gonna slap you a good one right on the side of your head.................Man you never told me about your gear getting ripped off. You tell me you want me to talk to your wife about buying Christmas presents & you don't tell me about that?

Road hunters? Ask Slee about the two idiots we saw scouting for elk that were road hunting in a mini van with the doors open, the guy in the back had his bow ready to shoot!!!!
