Sorry about the break in slee, sucks major, Ive had my gear stolen right in the middle of the season once[:@]
. Bow horse, on a trophy Blacky, when they start getting up around 17 or 18 inch spread and about the same height. your on to a bigger one. I' ve seen some in the 140+ class, my biggest grossed 102 and that' s the biggest I' ve seen out there myself. If you live in Kingston, your pretty close to some decent Bucks. There' s a guy who guide hunts out of Port orchard and he' s bagged some big' uns. Plus head over the bridge toward the peninsula and you' ll find plenty of big buck territory.
They are around , just hiding in the thick stuff

WAYNE1; Not a bad trip at all,can' t go back this weekend since my girlfriend is feeling ill-but am sending other scouts in the family and friends.
As for spike only,[X(]Yeah it sucks! the only place on the east side that don' t have it is just east of you!
As many big boys as we saw, you have to think that here sooner or later they should switch to the 3 Pt. rule!!! But being this IS Washington, greedy as our [>:][>:]public officials[&:] and beaurocrats[:' (] are,[X(] they will NOT give up thier $5 a shot for those " Special permit " drawing chances!!![
]
Got started hunting the east side many,many, many moons ago since living in the country over here you kind of get tired of brush, and rain. But back then all elk seasons ran concurrent, and even more important to some of us (M R) hunters, didn' t start ' till November and ran for 2 weeks!!!!!!!! Ah, the good old days. Sure was fun though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:-]

Well, two out of 3 of us managed to get deer - 2 small whitetail 3X' s . The area we use to hunt was fabulous - and after 5 years of hunting it, I could just about guarantee you 4 out of 5 people deer. Now here' s the thing that ticks me off. We use to get access by crossing this farmer' s field, crossing the river, then hunt this public land. Well, someone bought out the farmer and posted it, so we couldn' t access it that way. Another way was coming over the top and dropping down into the river, but if you got a deer, you needed to drag it up hill, and a long ways across the top... After the dismal opening day (saw over 70 deer - of that 70 2 were bucks (a spike and a 2x1) one was a whitetail) I figured I would head out over the top, and drag one out the hard way - then I found out the same group purchased the land over the top. So now - there is this SWEET public hunting place surrounded by posted land. So essentialy this group bought up the land around the public land, and posted it, so they have the public land for themselves for free. What a freakin' crock. there ought to be a law about accessing public land.

Well well...I' m going strong 2 years running now. 2 bulls in the last 2 years. I' m just startin' my streak
I killed a nice 3X2 with doubles Nov. 2nd, a couple Sunday' s ago. Over here in Mod. Fire season, Nov. 1-8...We started off the morning with snow, pretty rare/carazy for Nov. on the west side. After breakfast we all usually check the farmer' s fields for some eazy meat but this morning my dad wanted to head up in the woods. So, we were driving along this road, timber on both sides and my dad stops and sees this lone elk track in the road. We drive up the road to check a clear cut he might be in. No such luck. Drive back down to the track and we figure there is just enough snow to track him in the timber. So, I got off by myself my dad staying with the truck, driving around so he can call ppl on the CB if the bull is heading a certain direction. Anyways, I make this short and just say I started tracking at 7:00 and killed him at 11:30. I jumped him a couple times but couldn' t get a shot off in time. I pretty much ran him to death. You could see where he was dragging his feet from walking so far. My dad and Uncle we telling me to quit cause they didn' t feel like making this an all day thing since I was way the hell up there. If I would' ve crossed one more road it was 20 miles to the next town if I followed water out....I shot him at 40 ft. Broadside shot right under the backstraps and it somehow ended up in the spine. Then I finished him in the back of the neck cause he didn' t look paralyzed enough to me, lol...Pulled him out with a powersaw wench(wonderful things) and Grizzly 660(even better). That Grizzly had 5 guys on the quad itself (including the driver) and it was towing a full grown bull elk with 4 guys riding that in 5 inches of snow. Got back to the truck at 5:00 P.M. just at dark.....So, I got one, lol. Our party killed 5 this year. Pretty good, figuring we had 12 guys in our group plus the competition of everybody but within 15 miles and half of Seattle...

[size=3] Hi all, Nice to see some new faces.
I was wondering if anyone hunted elk in the Winston Unit. I have never been so dissapointed in the fellow hunter in all my life. When you spend time any money to scout and you know where the bulls are hanging, you expect a good year.
Anyway, here is how it went. Opening moring, up early to get to my spot. Ride the bike in 2 miles past the gate and walk in about 100 yds to the creek bottom.
this is 4am. About 6am I hear barking, and start to wonder what the heck can be barking out here. The barking continues on until daybreak, and I cant belive that I dont see 1 elk all moring. This area had about 16 legal bull in it. Anyway I hear the barking again and turn on the radio to check in . One of my friends said there was a camper parked in the middle of one clearcut and thats where the barking was coming from.
Then we heard talking on the radio numerous times we were down there about hunters shooting 15 times at an elk that was more than 800 yds away. WHAT IS GOING ON OUT THERE??? I am so pissed off, alot of these guys are lobbing bullets and not really knowing if there are any hunters around. I can tell you all that there was so much orange out there that it looked like Wherehouser war growing pumpkins instead of trees.
We as hunters need to get back to hunting ethically instead of trying to kill the first animal we see, no matter what is in the way. What are the chances, even if you hit a elk at 800 yds how much impact would the shot have even if it hit and how far is that elk going to go by the time you get there. This is the kind of crap that is going to get someone killed and organizations like PETA like to see.
