Who got you hooked on turkeys?

Sounds like a real nice father-in-law. I don't think I would give him credit for your interest in turkey hunting. Now aren't you glad you stuck with it.

my father. he hounded me for years to go with him. but at the time i more interested in drinking beer and chasing the infamous splittail. i finally gave in and the first day he called in a flock of 4 toms. we tried to double up. i scored, he missed. i still give him crap about that.

Ok you guys will never believe it, but it was my wife...Pauses while everyone gets up from rofl...Ok here is how it happend. We went to a Couples Valetine Dinner in KY. While coming back home (after visiting Bass Pro in Cincy) I mentioned that I wanted to turkey hunt someday. She told me my brother in law did too and we should go....Little did she know what that green light meant
. I am starting my 4th year and am hooked. I actually had some help afterwards from some great guys and the first to step up and teach me was Carl Drake. He is a pro staff guy with HS and Realtree (also a fellow firefighter) and he was a great help. He was the second call I made after getting my first bird (wife was first). I am now getting a lot of requests to help other new guys/gals and I am thrilled to pass on what I know now, not much, but it is a start.

I can honestly say I got myself hooked on turkeys. I taught myself everything I know about turkey hunting, mainly by trial and error. My dad wasn't a turkey hunter and none of my hunting partners turkey hunt. Hell, they don't hardly hunt anything anymore.I do have one friend who is trying to bag his first turkey. I'll be going to Tenn. a few times to tryand help him get his first, and me a couple.
