but they're legit. I have only had glossy black limb recurves until my new Falcon arrived Friday. My question is. Is there any finish on Check-Mate bows like a matte polyuethane or varnish? This thing looks like bare wood. In the past I have used a paste wood wax on my bows. Is it okay to use wax on the Check-Mate bows? If not what would you recommend for protection of the wood?

They use Fullerplast, I believe. No need to apply another finish. Marc has been experimenting with a new textured finish--I really like it so far.

I believe LBR is right.

Fullerplast is a 2-part epoxy type finish, and it's tough as nails. Unlike gloss polyurethane finishes, it's very hard to get matte Fullerplast scratched up while hunting the thick stuff. No waxing required, but you can still stroke your bow lovingly while wiping the dust from a hard day's hunting off of it.

Chad,
Is there any need to use wax or a sealer on the bow? Do you think I'm being over protective of my new toy?

Nope--no need to use another type sealer. If you get a realy bad scuff that goes through the finish, you might want to touch it up with clear nail polish. When we find out the new finish is going to work (I am pretty sure it will), I plan on using it exclusively. I have it on my td Crusader, and the bird's-eye bocote shows up great under it. It's not a frost type finish, just lightly textured. Still very clear.

I may never be right but I very seldom fail to make a mistake.
