Dumb Dumb me and my new Easton Axis arrows.
Well I decided to test three different broadheads out this weekend and one happened to be a mechanical broadhead. Well I just screwed it on and wanted to take a test shot. I have been shooting mechanicals broadheads for over 10 years. Well after a great shot at 20 yds I pulled my arrow out and realized I forgot to put a washer on that stops the blades from impacting the arrow. Well I destroyed that arrow. The 3 blades just pushed back from the impact of the arrow in the target and cut right through my arrow. Lesson learned.

Exactly the same thing some of us here shared our views on--what happens to the axis arrow when used in conjunction with a mechanical.
In my case, I've had great success with the Rocket Steelheads--a.ka. Buck Big Game. However this expandable only threads about 2-1/2 turns into the insert 'without' using the washer, adding a washer in between the arrow and the mechanical will reduce the amount of thread contact even more. Not good!!
This concern just about eliminates the combination I have mentioned above, until of course either one or the other comes up with something different to make it work.

ampahunter I didnt think of that, but for some reason I feel that mine screw in alot further than that. I will check when I get home from work today. But that is a real good point with Easton Axis and mechanicals

Quite a few mechanicals does screw further into the insert--however the Rocket Steelhead 'in partiicular' is one that doesn't and I am amazed that this snag hasn't been corrected as yet by the manufacture themselves.
If is has, I am to date, unaware.

I have had a few crimp themselves right to the insert. It sucks because a few have also cracked the arrow too.[:'(]
By the way they werent axis arrows, they were carbon express.
